It took me lots of time and rewinding and replaying to get all this down! But, hey, it's worth sharing with my fellow Paula fans! Especially since she talks about them filming the last LF show in Vancouver and her US tour after Europe! Enjoy! Detroit Radio Guy: Great set..I heard most of it from back in here, but the crowd was into it for sure. Paula: Yeah, yeah... Detroit's always very good to me. DRG: Yeah? P: Yeah DRG: You're welcome back any time. Wanna come back tomorrow? P: *laughs* No, I'll be in Vancouver. DRG: That's right....that's kinda neat, you're, uh, that's the last show for the Lilith Fair, right? P: Yeah... they're filming it, so I bought a new blue dress for the occasion. DRG: Wow.. they're filming it.. so it's gonna be a video people can pick up of the Lilith Fair? P: I think something like that, yeah. DRG: Look at you go go! Wow! ---I wish I could be there! P: Well, It's not all glamorous. We have to wake up at 6 in the morning and fly to Vancouver. DRG: So, and then, I understand on Wednesday, you have an appearance with David Letterman. P: Oh, yeah, yeah, our second time. He was good to his word. He said he wanted us back and he, indeed, invited us back. DRG: Was he mean to you? P: Not at all... DRG: He's got that reputation and stuff. P: Yes, he does. First of all, the studio is freezing. It's kept at 54 degrees. DRG: That's what I heard. I heard it's very loud, too. The band is extremely loud. P: Pretty loud... but, I thought he was a great guy. DRG: Ok, I'll take your word for it. I've not met him, myself. ok, so then there's the Letterman appearance, then I understand you're gonna be in Europe? P: Yeah, I'm gonna go sow my seed over there. I've always wanted to play Europe.. DRG: Sow your seed? P: yeah! DRG: OK... P: *laughs* DRG: Where abouts are you gonna be stopping in Europe? P: We start in Scotland, a few dates in England, Amsterdam, (radio guy interrupts how he was just there, blah blah blah) Scandinavia, Paris, many Germany dates 'cause Germany's like the biggest market in Europe. DRG: Of course, 10,000 people didn't come out to see me when I was in Amsterdam...(she laughs) That should be cool, and then some time off maybe after that? P: no..*laughs* no, then I'll make, probably, another video, and, um, go on tour again! I'm gonna hit the States mid-October for a theater tour, headlining, which will be great. DRG: yeah, 'cause unfortunately, some people listening right now didn't get a chance to see you tonight. P: Yeah, and for several months, now, I've been playing a short set just due to the nature of festivals and such, so it'll be great to be able to play a full set for my hard core fans. (that's us!!!!) DRG: I Don't Want To Wait, that got a really great reaction out there. P: Yeah. DRG: How's it doing? Still pretty well? P: I guess so. I guess it's climbing up the charts. It's just such a wonderful feeling to start your song and have it be recognized. DRG: people singing along, that's gotta be a trip. I think that'd be something else to see all these.. this mass, sea of people out there singing along with your lyrics. P: Yeah, I remember I was in Florida the first time I really felt the whole audience singing along with my songs... it was.. it feels like an acid trip *laughs*. DRG: It's a big warm fuzzy or something like that. P: yeah. DRG: So, are you gonna stick around for the rest of the night. You gonna see some of the other bands? (referring to the rest of Planet Fest) P: ummm, perhaps.. DRG: any chance run-ins with anbody that you got to meet for the first time? P: I, well, I met Matchbox 20, I think I met some of the guys from... see it's all such a hallucination *laughs*. I woke up too early this morning, but I met some of the guys from Matchbox 20 at Rock Fest down in Dallas -when was that?- a couple months ago, and I just, again, met the guitar player. They're very nice guys. DRG: Good band, too. They tore it up. So, anyway, thanks for dropping by ... the people that I talked to are like, this is an amazing show. And you would not believe how many people are like, well... yeah... INXS, but PAULA'S gonna be there! So apparently not alot of people saw you last time you were through. P: Oh, Really? (the guy's a total idiot, both nights for Lilith sold out here, so tons of people saw her! It's just that we can't get enough!) DRG: which wasn't too long ago... P: With Lilith... we played here.(<--referring to the venue, Pine Knob) DRG: about a month ago or so. P: Yeah. DRG: so that was cool, so, yeah, I appreciate it.. sounded great. P: Thank you. I'll be back! I'll be back probably in November. DRG: No, you said you're coming back tomorrow! No, after Vancouver, right? P: *laughs* after Vancouver. DRG: All right, we'll see you then. Have fun in Europe, too. P: Ok, thank you. Well, I'm gonna go relax now and watch The Price Is Right. I miss game shows--it's all talk shows nowadays.... Peace. ---Kara---<--<{@ - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Aug 1997 13:40:33 -0400 From: dan_bartosik@ccmail.mmsday.com (Dan Bartosik) Subject: Re: (harbinger) What Paula said on Detroit radio 8/23/97 Kara, Thanks a lot for going to the trouble to type this out and share it. If you don't mind, I'd like to forward this message on to the Sarah McLachlan list . I think that just about everybody over there is a Paula fan as well. I'm glad to hear that they had the cameras rolling at Lilith. Sarah said in an interview that there may be a Lilith documentary filmed, but in all the fan reviews I've read of the various Lilith shows, nobody had mentioned camera crews roaming about. That's also cool to hear that she'll be playing smaller venues when she tours the U.S. this winter. The sound quality and intimacy is so much better in the club and theater type venues than in large concert halls. The downside is fewer seats available. Hopefully her newfound popularity doesn't make tickets too difficult to obtain. I got my promo copy of the "Me" single today. As I expected, it's just the album version and the radio edit, but I wanted to let you all know that, as long as the radio edit that appears on this CD is the one that makes it to the radio waves, it sounds just as good as the album version. It's not at all chopped up like "IDWTW" has been. Peace.
