Unfortunately, it was a Paulaless one, but they did play This Fire between sets in the evening. I think we got to hear the whole CD. The best small stage act was someone named Alana Davis. I hope to hear more of her when her CD comes out in September. Joan Osborne and Jewel were really great, and Sarah was outstanding. Nobody mentioned that she's obviously been spending some time in the gym. She's not that willowy little thing anymore, but she just looks all that more empowered to pull off a tour like that. We were a soldout crowd of 12,000. There shouldn't be any doubt as to the drawing power of female acts anymore. Here's hoping Paula makes it back to Houston before the year's out. I'm really surprised that there ever was. I remember when Sarah tested the first Lilith last year--I could have killed to get tickets! And when she was on tour with Paula, even tho' I didn't really know much about Paula, I was excited to see both of them-- together! I loved the idea of women supporting women--not done enough these days, so it seems. Also...someone mentioned earlier about the lack of women on stage as back-ups. My friend mentioned this when we went to Lilith here in CA--he thought it was a great oversight that there weren't more women on stage with the head performers. I thought about it for a while and wondered about it myself. Then I theorized that there ARE lots of women out there that play instruments and such. However, it would seem that when they do, they tend to form their own bands or go solo. What do you think? Is it that people are afraid of hiring women musicians as back-up or that the women would rather go at it themselves? I can think of many women musicians in bands, but they tend to be jazz-related or on TV (unless that's an EEO thing). There's a couple pictures and an interesting article (mostly stuff I've seen in other places, but focusing a bit more on her early stuff than most recent articles). You might want to check it out. :-) Dave - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Aug 1997 19:45:22 +0000 From: Kara and Tina Subject: (harbinger) Sarah/Tara video at Borders Hi Everyone! Unless I've posted this with wrong address and what I'm about to say is entirely unwanted to all who view this, I am writing for the first time since adding myself to the list. Supposed to introduce myself I'm told... When it comes to music, I lead a double-life...for the longest time I've been most interested in singer-songwriters...dare I say...folk music, and, as a result of a past, intimate relationship with a talented bluegrass musician, that and the Celtic genre. Professionaly, I have been in the business of staging soccer games of all types and size in major (and not-so-major) stadia around the country. Although I've been a devotee ever since hearing a cut from Harbinger a couple of years ago, what I really have enjoyed doing is playing several of her cuts over at the games I've done. No jock rock for the games I produce. Since I do not know much about Ms. Cole and haven't communicated with many knowledgeable folks about her splendid music, I feel a bit out of my depth just now...I look forward to hearing what you all have to say... - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Aug 1997 00:37:44 -0400 (EDT) From: PDAKarys Subject: Re: (harbinger) Hot Star of the Week i was wondering if you know if paula will be touring in the us again when she is back from her tour in europe. - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ End of harbinger-digest V2 #30 ******************************
