It was horrible. No, don't get me wrong, Paula and the band was great under the circumstances, but she had to snip and cut her own songs down to the super duper abridged version (barely 2 minutes) and perform with horrible acoustics... bleh. Not to mention that their 2nd performance was cut abruptly before the end of Cowboys because of lack of time... I was disgusted. I think most of it had to do with Gelman being off that morning; whoever was in charge could not control that annoying gardening lady who stole most of paula's time. And to have to sit thru Kathie Lee's insufferable whining about her many boats and carnival cruises...and all the time that they gave Joan Rivers... yuck, yuck, yuck. Still, it was nice to see Paula. I will get to go to Lilith this thursday, but alas, it is Paula-less. Anyways, it seemed that the band was in great need of a vacation... i hope they enjoy it. They definitely deserve it! For one thing they call Paula's album "Barbinger" and they list Emmylou Harris as singing "Shame On You" (sung by the Indgigo Girls), and vice-versa. You would think someone would double check these things before sending it to the printer! Still, it's a good CD...certainly worth the $10. To make a long story short, thanks to Jon Akers from this list, I e-mailed KMTT and asked about the CD. I was told that they have them available at a price of only $5.00 (US) + $1.00 for shipping and handling. Whoo-hoo! So I mailed off my check yesterday and can't wait until my CD gets here! I was ALSO at the Concert at Great Woods in Mansfield...actually, was part of the Jay Bellerose contingent backstage, as I was Jays High School Band director way back when, and was hanging with Jay, and his sisters that day. I also owe a lot to Phil, he always makes sure that I am taken care of, thanks again Phil! The article in the Boston Globe also infuriated me...I can't imagine where this man was...not at the same concert "I" was at! I thought Paula and the guys gave one of the best live performances I had ever heard (and I have heard them MANY times...), it was so full of life and passion! I think a lot of it had to do with her parents and grandma being there (she told me she was really excited about that!)..and being "home". The guy obviously had no clue...I would love to know what his background was! Personally, I didn't enjoy Fiona Apple...too bizaare and loud and screamy for my tastes, but thought that Tracy Chapman was one of the most incredible performers I had ever seen! Jay was sitting with us for that performance..and I believe he agreed it was outstanding! Not only was the Globe Reporters judgement of the concert totally off base, he was obviously blind too...the ratio (men/ women) HAD to be at LEAST 1 to 10!!! :) well..thats my .02 worth!
