Bacon" Subject: (harbinger) PNC Bank Arts Center, NJ Lilith Well. Let me just say that I can die happy now. the day started off really well. We got there early and sat outside the gate, listening to Sarah's soundcheck. I could feel my knees shaking already because this was the first time I ever saw Sarah live. When they opened the gates, we plopped our blanket down in a prime spot, then went to the village to see Holly Palmer play the acoustic set. I've never heard any of her music before, so I didn't know what to expect. She was really good, though. Halfway through her set (this is the absolute highligght of the fair for me), I saw Paula watching Holly. I wanted to go up to talk to her, but...well, I didn't want to bother her. But I knew I'd regret it forever if I didn't. So.......I went up to her and said hello. And she was so beautiful and so incredibly kind. And she hugged me. Paula Cole hugged me. My day was complete. But you know, I didn't know what to say to her. Her music had touched me so much, but I don't know how to tell her without sounding like a geek. But I think she might understand.... Anyway. the performers were all incredible. Paula, of course, was full of energy and emotion. The crowd didn't really seem into her, except when she did "Cowboys", which is what I expected. But hopefully, they'll all move past track 2 ont he cd now. Tracy Chapman was great! She had everyone on their feet, singing and dancing. She did a lot of her older songs, which surprised me since her new album is so good. Sarah. My first Sarah experience. She moved me to tears with "Angel." Her voice is incredible....and so is Camille's. And her encore of "Ice Cream" with Rex was adorable. She started with her older songs, then started the new ones.... Geez. I'm tired. I really should go back to bed. I'll write more later in more detail. *sigh* I met Paula. I had the most fantastic time; the day was perfect, the weather was absolutely gorgeous, and the performances were flawless. I was fortunate enough to have seats in section B so my view was pretty decent. During Paula's performance, I just had to get out of my seat and dance...normally I would have felt really guilty for obstructing the view of the people seated behind me but, to my horror, they didn't mind because they weren't even paying attention! It pissed me off but I was having way too much fun for them to piss on my parade. Paula was so wonderful! She was so energetic and performed a lot of her best songs. Here's the setlist: Throwing Stones Mississippi Me Where Have All the Cowboys Gone? Jolene Tiger I Don't Want to Wait Hitler's Brothers Immediately following Paula's performance, I sprinted to the second stage where Juliana Hatfield was performing. I had already seen Juliana perform two times before, and this was my third time in three years that I was going to be seeing her. She was as rockin' as she always is. I was slightly disappointed that she didn't play any of the songs I suggested like "Ugly," "Spin the Bottle," or "Universal Heartbeat," but she did play "My Sister," which got the crowd going a bit. Juliana deserved to be on the main stage but I guess she isn't that well known. Fiona Apple, the other reason I went to Lilith for, was really awesome. Fiona's setlist: Shadowboxer Sleep to Dream The First Taste Criminal Never is A Promise Angel (which she dedicated to her "saviour" and boyfriend, David Blaine <--the brilliant magician) What can I say about Sarah McLachlin except that she was soooo amazing. She ro cked. That's the only way to describe her performance: she kicked major ass. - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Jul 1997 22:18:44 +0100 From: "Richard Elliott" Subject: (harbinger) Paula in London Sept 10th Yep thats right all UK'ers.
