If the venue has assigned seating, you'll be looking at about $45 to be in the first section (usually the first 20-30 rows) with prices falling as you get further from the stage. I cheated today and bought the regular cd from a cheapo store downtown (along with Dar William's new album) figuring it would be months before my wife would let go of thing. I am now in possession of one of the most sleep-inducing albums in human history. I'm glad surfacing wasn't around 300 years ago...Bach wouldn't have written the Goldberg variations b/c Goldberg could have just played Surfacing to the Count to put him to sleep. That's one of the things I like about Paula...her cds have variations in pace to them. It isn't just, "Okay, for the next song should we play the slow song, the really slow song, or the 'so slow we're going back in time' song." We had to go to Bryn Mawr to pick up the special edition version of the cd, which I had reserved this morning, and one nasty effect of having the regular version already was that we played it on the way to the store. I almost caused two accidents due to surfacing-induced narcolepsy. The problem isn't with the songs--they're lovely--as much as it is that half the cd is missing. There's only two songs with a pulse, and one isn't so much up a notch in pace as up a notch in volume. It's kind of like getting a set of Mozart symphonies. Medium movement-slow movement-fast movement-slow movement, or some mix thereof. Take the slow movements from ten symphonies, plop them on a cd, and even though the quality of the works aren't any less the cd will still put you to sleep halfway through. Each individual song on Surfacing is fine, but strung together as cd....ugh...zzzzzzzzzz..... Haven't listened to Dar, but I can't understand *what* was going on when they picked the cover photo. Hideous. When I bought it I thought, "God what a terrible photo." When I gave the cd to my wife, she said, "What is the deal with this awful photo they used." Then when I was flipping through cds at Borders I overheard the clerks saying "God, Dar Williams looks horrible on the cover, what did they do to her?" Odd night in cd purchase land.... (Sorry to sound negative about Surfacing...it's a very nice album, it just needs to be put in shuffle play with a cd that has a pulse...) The special edition of 'Surfacing' (called the limited edition in Canada) is a special 2-CD set of 'Surfacing'. It includes another CD that has the song "Prayer for St. Francis" and a jazzy remix of "Sweet Surender" was well as some additional multimedia stuff. Only 25,000 of the limited edition 'Surfacing's were pressed, so you might want to try and get your hands on one while they're still around. Hope this helps.
