We are wondering if any of you on the list are going to these shows...we'd love to meet up with you! Please e-mail us privately if you would like to arrange a meeting of harbinger listers at either of these shows. (We'll be at both MI shows). Also, we want everyone to know that Tara MacLean and Sarah McLachlan will both be at the Border's book store in Farmington Hills, MI on July 19th! Tara is performing at 10:30am and Sarah will be signing starting at 11am. We are wondering if there will be any people "camping out" or just going over there really early! We haven't decided yet which we will do.... My friend turned me on to Paula, with the song Tiger, then i got the album and could not stop listening to it! I have actually begun to think that apart from my friend and I, there are no Paula Cole fans in Australia. I have only seen one interview with her in a street paper, but other than that she remains anon, despite all the effort of the two of us. She recieved single of the week when WHATCG came out here, but still no one seems to know her. I have never seen her live but i am waiting for the day she ventures down to Australia! Its nice to know that there are people out there who like her stuff as much as I do! I've been reading this list for about one week now, and figured I'd put my two cents in.... I've seen Paula Cole live twice, both in 1995. The first show was a free gig at South Station (in Boston MA), was about one hour, and Paula was great! The second show she opened for Sarah McClachlan (sp?) at the Orpheum, also in Boston. Both shows were great!! Alas, I am not attending the Lilith Fair... Paula is not on the bill down here in Texas, and I have final exams the same week....ah well... If anyone is interested, i can post some web site URL's where there's some good stuff on Paula...Its nice to other Paula fans!!! In an outdoor festival venue that was not ideal to appreciate Paula's intimate, emotional music, I was moved far beyond anything that I had expected by the beauty and passion of her music. I rushed out and purchased "This Fire" and cannot now stop listening to this album over and over (and over...) From reading the newsgroup FAQ, I understand that there is resentment among some members of the group towards new fans of Paula who came to appreciate her only after she has become "popular" with increased airplay of "Where Have all the Cowboys Gone?". Interestingly, this song never interested me until I could understand it in the context of her concert, "This Fire", and "Harbinger". I now hear it as one of the cohesive twenty-odd chapters from her recorded musical work, and I love it. There have only been a handful of records in my life that have moved me on first listen to the extent of "This Fire": (stream of consciousness in no particular order) Julia Fordham's "Julia Fordham"; Sarah McLachlan's "The Freedom Sessions"; The Cowboy Junkies' "The Trinity Sessions"; Rickie Lee Jones' "Pirates"; Joni Mitchell's "Blue"; Shawn Colvin's "Fat City", Jennifer Warnes' "Shot Through the Heart"; Linda Ronstadt's "Hasten Down the Wind"; Lyle Lovett's "Joshua Judges Ruth"; Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run"; John Martyn's "Grace and Danger", Michael Johnson's "For All You Mad Musician's"; Laura Nyro's "Seasons of Light" and Neil Young's "Harvest". (I'm sorry that this list may seem long and diverse, but I am 37 and have been listening solidly for 25 years!) Paula Cole's music is a gift that we should cherish and share. I would enjoy others' comments and treasured records of their past... - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 23:28:52 -0400 From: DeanJP Subject: Re: (harbinger) Lilith stuff At 11:22 PM 7/14/97 -0400, you wrote: >Kara and Tina, I am going to Pine Knob Lilith Fair, email me privately and >we can see how we can hook up if you like! >Angie - --- I'm going on Saturday too! I've seen the occassional post about "bandwagon" fans also. However, I don't think the idea is against people who are new to Paula. I think the negativity is toward those that jump on the "hit list" bandwagon, only to be gone tomorrow when the next top 40 artist is around. For those who truly appreciate Paula and what she has to say/impart to the listening audience, they are always welcomed with open arms. Personally, if it weren't for stores selling used CDs that make the risk of getting something from someone completely new, I wouldn't know half the artists I do (I got Harbinger for a steal before "Ordinary" was really popular--I loved the song upon first hearing it and the CD was the same as the single, so why not??)
