What I did was this: 1) moved all members of harbinger to harbinger@smoe.org 2) moved everyone subbed to harbinger-digest to harbinger-digest@smoe.org 3) tried to unsub the harbinger-digest people from harbinger (back when the digest broke down I subbed all the digest people to the regular list so they knew what was going on) 4) unsubbed everyone from all the versions of harbinger at ecto.org 5) closed harbinger@ecto.org to posting (if anyone posted to harbinger@ecto.org today, the messages were never sent out b/c there was no one left subbed.) A few "issues": 1) some of you will suddenly find yourself back on the list. Probably you were a digest subscriber that unsubbed when the digest broke down and I switched you to the regular list. What happened is that you didn't unsub from the digest, so your name was still listed as a subscriber to harbinger-digest. So when I transfered the list over, you continued to be a member of the digest, except that now the digest works. 2) some of you might have gotten messages welcoming you to both the regular list and the digest. That's b/c I couldn't tell which members of the regular list were also digest members, so what I had to do was sub everybody to the new regular list, sub the digest people to the new digest, and then try to unsub those digest people from the new regular list. To find out what lists you are subbed to, mail majordomo@smoe.org with the message: which And you will get back a message indicating which lists you are subbed to. 3) If you want to switch to the news list, you have to subscribe to that list and then unsub from whatever you are subbed to now, either the regular list or the digest. 4) Some of you will find that you can no longer post. The reason for this is that your userid/system combination has changed enough since you first subscribed that majordomo can't match your name to a member of the subscriber list. The lists are now set up to only accept posts from members of the list. If you run into this problem, write me so we can correct your subscription. Anyway, things should be much smoother now. Now that a digest and news list are available, there is no reason for people to be sending "you're not talking about Paula" "what is the point of what you are talking about?" complaints. If the list gets too off-topic, you can always either switch to the digest or the new list. H/e, as the welcome message said, I am asking that subscribers show some small measure of self-restraint in what they dispatch to a couple of hundred others. That address to post to, remember, is now harbinger@smoe.org Jason ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Jul 1997 21:28:45 -0400 (EDT) From: Karen Whyte Subject: (harbinger) Re: [harbinger] Rockfest '97 Review--Awesome!! I totally agree with this. "This Fire" doesn't sound as "full" as "Harbinger" did. But that's ok. I actually like how sparse some of TF is. - -Karen - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Jul 1997 21:33:22 -0400 (EDT) From: Karen Whyte Subject: (harbinger) Re: [harbinger] CD Review On Thu, 26 Jun 1997, Jayme wrote: > I've been curious about the philosophical and feminist trend of thought > that seems to run through "This Fire." I dunno. I've always appreciated Paula's stuff, 'cause she doesn't neccesarily hit you over the head with her feminist views. I think she's quite subtle. I actually had someone tell me that WHATCG was totally sexist - they didn't get the sarcasm! But I like that Paula is subtle and I've really enjoyed reading articles about her. She seems like one of the more mature artists to come out of this whole..."chick rock" trend. ;) - -Karen - ------------------------------ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe harbinger Digest, further unsub and problems FAQ at: http://www.netaxs.com/~jgreshes/lists/harbinger.html For This Fire kinda-lyrics write Riphug@aol.com ------------------------------ End of harbinger-digest V1 #1 *****************************
