Halloween. a full moon. the Dracula's Ball. and three of our favorite ladies taking the stage. yes, last night was the big event. here is me sticking in my review/raving of the events of the evening. Melora and co. slipped onto stage in classic petticoats, corsetry, and hoopskirts (i saw up melora's skirt!) and with feathery wreaths crowning them. the most unfortunate occurence of the evening was the fact that they played on a low balcony, behind one of the bars at Shampoo, with a railing directly between me (in the front row) and their faces. as soon as Melora took her seat she commented "i didnt realize we'd be playing in a big birdcage so far away from all our friends!" the best occurence of the evening was when i was walking back to my car and passed Melora about to climb into her van. we got hugs, autographs, a picture, and a bit of chatting time with her! she seemed very tired so i was rather guilty detaining her...and i forgot the cool question i had planned to ask, which doesnt seem nearly so interesting now anyway. i picked up The Lost and Found, but of course had dropped it and my ticket stub off already by the time i saw her. the trio sounded marvelous, as always. lots of fabulous instrumentals, some new touches on old classics (Stumpside sounded remarkably different in a really cool way...) and some new stuff all together. now for the play list! Stumpside Sister Sleep The New Zero The X-Walk Signs of the Zodiac ~two here that i didnt recognize or catch the titles to. one could possibly have had something to do with the ocean, and the other was likely a cover - lines such as "never felt quite like this before" or "never felt a love like this" seemed out of Rasputina's usual subject matter of witches and leeches and roller skates and egrets.~ This Orphanage Rat Rusty the Skatemaker Diamond Mind Transylvanian Concubine Things I'm Gonna Do ...fabulous stuff. plenty of Melora classics between songs, too: (these are as close as i can remember to the actual quotes) "i've quit smoking pot, but that takes enormous strength considering all the peer pressure i have from you fine folk. so i'm just gonna do what i did in high school: smoke cheeze puffs." (into sister sleep) "in the recent disaster at the World Trade Center, i have heard about these special, magical implants that some lucky people possess in their bodies, which allow them to be identified. and so i said to myself, 'i should get me some of those magical implants!'" "whats the deal with eric clapton, anyway? sure, he married a model, and had a kid with the model, and the kid fell out the highrise window...but hey, i guess thats what singing the blues is all about!" "i DONT brush my teeth, i HATE to bathe, and i lack the bridge of my nose, which leads me to believe that i resemble a dolphin. or at least i am related to some through marriage." "animals that attack. should you ever be in such an unfortunate circumstance, here is my advice: open your mouth, put your hands behind your back, close your eyes, and give 'em a big ol' french one, which should solve the problem" "we're not a BAR band!" (as people yelled requests) "This next song is over 250 years old. you cant kill it if you try, because i couldnt kill it, and believe me. i tried." (Transylvanian Concubine) all in all, twas a fabulous show, but horribly, horribly overcrowded. also a small girl behind me insisted on singing along to all the songs she knew at the top of her lungs. this was unfortunate, but i took some small comfort that i knew the X walk, this Orphanage, and part of Rat...and she didn't. such a snob am i! now i will go to bed, for it was a long night and apparently i awoke for nothing: my first class was cancelled. was anyone else at the show at all? you've all been so silent about the Philly show, i wonder if i'm the only one left on here.... peace love and cellos, ~~Lori - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2001 04:44:05 +0000 From: "L'Ophenya Mae" Subject: oh, one more thing... - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2001 05:06:58 +0000 From: "L'Ophenya Mae" Subject: oops, sorry about that... whoopsie, blank email. i really DID type something...something along the lines of: one more thing: i mustn't gloat over this too hard, but those of us who attended the Dracula's Ball recieved a compilation cd with a NEW RASPUTINA SONG on it. and it is entitled: GINGERBREAD COFFIN. trying to send it to porcy and melly, so check their site for it sometime...or maybe you'll just have to wait till the next cd comes out. the song rocks, though. maybe i'll try and type out lyrics for you all soon. ~~Lori - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2001 06:43:47 +0000 From: "Heidi M" Subject: Re: what could be better than.... >was anyone else at the show at all? you've all been so silent about the >Philly show, i wonder if i'm the only one left on here.... Not the only one left at all, I just wish the ladies would do some widespread touring. I live in Cleveland, and they were supposed to be here once since I've been aware of the music, and the show was cancelled. Does anyone know if there is any touring in Rasputina's future? This would thrill me ever so much.
