I wish i knew exactly how to describe this band. female vocalist, a little spacey, but not too creepy. Beautiful and Spiders are some good songs to start out with. The Innocence Mission: Glow. this band is similar to Cocteau Twins, very nice and sort of peaceful. Good songs? "That Was Another Country" and "Keeping Awake." Dish: Boneyard Beach. Dana Kletter's newer band after Blackgirls, sweet and haunting lyrics with some interesting mental pictures involved. my favorite song is "January Song." I also recently got Black Tape for a Blue Girl (As one aflame laid bare by desire), Dead Can Dance (into the labyrinth), and the Labyrinth soundtrack. I love David Bowie! so, comments? agree? disagree? further recommendations? lets bring the list back to life. hi to all my friends from the Philly Rasputina concert...tom n michele, i havent forgotten you! ~~Lori ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 16:47:33 GMT From: "Burgundy Wine" Subject: rasputina: to tour for a new album in spring hello goths people, haven't read my goths list messages in half a year it seems, but to answer some girl's recent posting about not hearing anything new about rasputina, i read a message written under the name "melora" on the official bulletin board just last week. she was responding to some young mother with a rasputina tattoo who wondered if melora ever read those messages. here tis! >Melora reads the posts all the time. This is the first time I've >answered >anything, but since you got the tattoo, I had too. You >should post a photo >of it here. I am a mommy too, so, good luck with >that. Keep playing the >cello. Rasputina will probably have a new >record and tour in the Spring. >Love, M as for any official confirmation to this, there ain't none, but this message sounds sincere, doesn't it? i think so. take care, burgundy ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 13:07:51 EDT From: ImAZeroSP@aol.com Subject: music music music hey hey hey kids- i just have to say that seeing that one person wrote the other bands that they were getting into, i have to add a few too- i really really really love Kill Hannah. Luna - Days of Our Nights "will you stand trial / for crimes against the mind?" [Words Without Wrinkles] my most favorite band of all time. the epitome of catchy. unabashedly lovely melodies. clever, urbane lyrics. their latest album's being released domestically very very soon. it's a far cry from the V.U. laden sound of their earlier work. features a fabulously sleepy cover of Sweet Child O' Mine (seriously, it's almost like a lullaby). their official site (fuzzywuzzy.com) just posted new tour dates, so if you're in the area, do go see them, the live shows are pure magic. and my god, Dean Wareham is a sexy, sexy man. :D more: http://www.aald.demon.co.uk/galaxie/index.html The Orchids - Epicurean, A Soundtrack "let the colors / in your eyes now / always shine red and green / never let them fall / never let them die / never let the wind blow in my heart" [Blue Light] Sarah Records was a legendary label. go on eBay, do a search for Sarah Records, and see how insanely much people will spend on a Sarah seven inch. but i'm not a crazy spender. i am, in fact, a chintzy bastard. so how do i get my hands on this stuff? i'm lucky. Epicurean fell into my hands because a friend of mine had a paranoid impulse that his copy had been stolen and resold to a record store he happens to frequent. so he bought the "stolen" copy, only to find he was being neurotic. anyway, it's mine now. The Orchids make pretty, sometimes fragile, always infectious indiepopmusic. i have a habit of saying if i were to slit my wrists, Blue Light would be the song i'd do it to. not to be depressing, or anything. here: http://www.twee.net/bands/orchids.html The Field Mice - Where'd You Learn To Kiss That Way? "if the sun going down can make me cry / why should I not like the way I am?" [Sensitive] another Sarah gem. but this one i happily paid full price for. WYLTKTW is a two cd retrospective, so you can easily do some catching up with this incredible band, instead of running all over hell's half acre frantically searching for random out of print horrendously priced seven inches to complete your collection. which, of course, one should do eventually, but this does nicely in the mean time. Bob Wratten is the tortured soul behind the Field Mice and its successors Northern Picture Library and Trembling Blue Stars. his music is something of a guilty pleasure; he writes songs so achingly personal you feel like you're listening in on something you shouldn't. but no one has ever made heartbreak sound so beautiful. learn: http://www.maths.monash.edu.au/~rjh/fm/ The Smiths - The Smiths "I dreamt about you last night / and I fell out of bed twice / you can pin and mount me like a butterfly..." [Reel Around The Fountain] alright. so it's not lauded as their finest. screw Hatful of Hollow, this is where my fascination with The Smiths began. that line from Reel Around the Fountain still makes me giggle like a schoolgirl. why don't real boys ever say clever things like that? sigh. learn more: http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~moz/ honorable mentions in rotation: Halou / We Only Love You Cocteau Twins / Blue Bell Knoll Magnetic Fields / Get Lost Misfits / Walk Among Us Nick Cave et al. / Best of..... i must be going through some midcollege crisis. i keep listening to/buying albums that remind me of high school. not that high school was so great. but being on the verge of getting into all these new things was still exciting. now i just want to sleep a lot. god this was unnecessarily long. ooo, kids in the hall is on! that means bye! jen http://member.aol.com/nahaliel/ through the glass i see the thing that always frightened me [the sugargliders] ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 15:46:36 EDT From: KrodKnid@aol.com Subject: Re: music?
