In a message dated 99-02-03 14:11:52 EST, you write: << Looks like Vivisect-six.............as in a vivisection and Roman numeral six (VI)................vivisection being cutting open a live animal for pathological investigation, resulting in much pain for the animal...........hence,by common usage, any kind of detailed scrutiny that causes serious pain or discomfort to the one being investigated..........like this whole Clinton mess could be called a vivisection of his sex life. >> Nix my explanation, i like this one better. Its more creative and probably right. Proserpina ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Feb 1999 15:03:06 PST From: "Happy Voodoo" Subject: Books!! So disconnected man? Yes. Bug? Yes. I have the Stanley Corngold translation so I don't know if it is consistent with all other copies, and I don't remember where in the book it is said, but I do remember reading somewhere in there about Gregor being a "stag beetle". And MY proof is that (I'm not a beetle specialist) I had never even heard of stag beetles. Stag? I didn't know about stag. But now I know where I heard the name at least. And the Samsa's maid calls Gregor a "dung beetle" a few times, and (yesterday) I researched some about dung beetles and a dung beetle is the more common name for stag beetle, and stag beetle is the more common name for ... something in latin. I don't remember. And I'm not arguing, I just want to make sure everyone is happy. :) * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Grandville, the Grandest of all * * * That is Grand. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Feb 1999 20:12:21 -0500 From: Dupin Subject: RE: Books Hey! Im 16.. thanks so much for the recommendations...What is Bone Collector about? Ive heard tons of votes for Poppy Z. Brite, im so interested now! Do you have a favourite for poppy z brite? Kat [Dupin] The bone collector is your basic mystery book. The basic idea is a detective and a physically crippled ex-forensics criminologist have to catch him before he kills Rhyme(the crippled forensic person) I love it very very much. My favorite book is probably Drawing Blood. I also like her collection of short stories in the book Swap Foetus aka Wormwood...everything she writes is wonderful...if you like cannibalism and/or the love of the dead then I can suggest Exquisite Corpse.... Apparently, the excuse for the lobotomy was that the daughter was capable of liking men, but not capable of, ah, behaving properly. So, it was for her protection that rose had her lobotomized. Which, of course, left her pretty much vegetabley. did that make sense? well, that's the story in a nutshell. m ------------------------------ End of goths-digest V3 #35 **************************
