I have ordered one of their albums and am anxious to listen. I can't wait to hear the cd, from what i've heard they are great. I recommend it to any cello fans, which i think applies to all here. etc.tim. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jan 1999 19:41:50 -0500 From: michele s hardeman Subject: Apocalyptica i first heard of them on the rasputina homepage. i'm not much one for metallica, though...a friend of mine said it's good. that's all iknow, what i've been told: it's good. i don't care for metallica, though.....when you hear it, let us know...sounds interesting, if nothing else.... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jan 1999 21:05:57 EST From: KrodKnid@aol.com Subject: Re: Apocalyptica In a message dated 1/25/99 7:26:13 PM Eastern Standard Time, yestim@chicago.avenew.com writes: << > I was just wondering if any of you have heard of a band called "Apoclyptica." The second, named "Inquisition Symphony" has more covers, besides four original songs. >heard that Apocalyptica are pretty good.Other bands that use >cello:"Verbow",from Chicago....cello/guitar/bass/drums......the cello >is very prominent in this group..... I highly recommend Verbow..I have one bootleg of theirs as well as album/singles. More pop oriented music tho...not this dark, lush sound from Apocalyptica and Rasputina. Everything they have ever done kicks ass. They do lots of covers as well as tons of original. Mostly jazz though. Their cellist, Mark Summers, can be a rock band on his own. Check out his solo work: "Juli-O, for solo cello" Modern String Quartet: I think they're from Germany. They were here on tour a couple of years ago, I bought everything the were selling (including two folios of their arrangements/compositions). Amazing group, very TISQ inspired. Green String Quartet: Play some covers of Guns'n Roses, as well as a lot of other stuff. Very cool, but I don't know much about them. Kronos Quartet: The leaders in modern chamber music. You name the composer, they've commissioned something from him or her. Look for them on the upcoming DVD re-release of Bela Lugosi's Dracula, playing music by Philip Glass. They have a huge discography, 25 years worth. My favorites are their Hendrix covers and their "Pieces of Africa" disc. Remember, this is not goth music, but it kicks ass anyways. There is room for many types of music in this world (aka: Rasputina AND Manson), so listen and appreciate. Extensive information on some of the above mentioned groups, as well as many others, can be found at Bowed Electricity: the Electric Violin Website.
