Just wondering the thing about cello music is, when i first heard the album I thought it was a guitar.I knew they played the cello, but songs like leechwife sounded like a guitar.....no kidding, that's how musically illiterate i am.... I think someone on the BBS said Melora was not feeling good, during the last gig... So I guess they replaced the one girl? Sorry, but i have no idea who's who...except melora. .The drummer kicked ass too.... She's just touring with Melora + Julia. I asked Melora what's with Agnieska(SP), and the reason why she's not touring with them is BECAUSE she's pregnant!!! Melora says they'll always love her. I told her I'm on the Goths list, and she goes "Oh, they're so sweet." I also asked what happened to their previous drummer, and she said she couldn't stand him anymore. He was too much to bear, apparently. Melora looked absolutely ghostlike, with her face all white + pale, and her hair all white. Beautiful + freaky, just how we like her, right?? Talking to her, she came off a bit dry, but she was very nice, not rude like she was made out to be on the MM tour. Nana was very sweet, beautiful too. I didn't watch the Conan show yet, but I taped it though!! Can't wait to see it, as well as their gig on Monday night at the Mercury Lounge!! It was funny cuz the NBC lobby was filled with Sandra Bullock fans (I like her too, but you know who I was REALLY there for!! :-) ), and little ol' me was just about the only Raspy fan, until 3 or 4 others showed up. The 3 ladies came down thru the main elevators, separately I might add, and SB went straight to the basement, and I believe, left her fans hanging!! Sweet revenge, I guess. Later... I am a little disappointed that they kept all the sampling effects in with their live performance. The sampler effects (especially the gunshot sequence in the middle of the song) did not seem to fit in well with a live performance, at least in my opinion. I guess I feel that live performances should be *only* the performers and their instruments, nothing else. The sampler effects seemed too contrived to me; it's not really Rasputina playing, it's some guy in the back pushing a button at the proper times. Absolutely loved *seeing* them play again...I haven't seen them in over a year! An interview with the band would have been awesome :( Julia has more tattoos than I remember when I saw them live. It looked like Agnieska played an extra note there at the end; afterwards, Melora and Angieska looked at each other and laughed a little. I have to go watch it again....they are really a gorgeous band to watch and listen to.... Yes, the new disc HWQTF has more bite, and it is more accessible to the masses, but it's not missing ANY of the charm of the debut. As a matter of fact, I think the edge adds MORE charm, and there still are eerie melodies (check out "Rose K") + their dark, twisted sense of humor ("Diamond Mind"). It's just easier to grasp on to. Heck, I got into HWQTF instantly, while TFTE took me about 2 years to "get". I originally bought it back when it was new, saw them open for Kula Shaker, thought it was interesting but I didn't understand deeply, so I got rid of it!! It was only until I heard the new one, that I bought TFTE (+ the EP) back and really "understood" it!! The new one is great on 2 levels: it's a FANTASTIC CD, and it serves as a gateway to the first one. My faves are "The New Zero", "Watch TV", + "Trenchmouth". Buy it + enjoy!! Later... If anyone else gets to talk with them, ask if the band would answer questions compiled by the list (like, 30 or 40 questions)....if we could mail them a compiled list of questions and receive a response to distribute to all on the list. I've been working on tabbing some [1](Erica, check the footnote!), and they're not all that hard. I'm not the greatest tab-er in the world, so I have a little difficulty with some things, but the actual level of difficulty of the music isn't very high. Not beginner easy, but not the most difficult stuff I've encountered. > Just wondering > the thing about cello music is, when i first heard the album I thought it was > a guitar. In one interview Melora comments on how the cellos sound like gutars when run directly through an amp. When you put the distortion on top of that, it makes it sound even more guitar like. BTW, on leechwife and several other songs on the album the band's intent was to make their instruments sound like lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and bass (your basic rock band set-up). >I knew they played the cello, but songs like leechwife sounded like a > guitar.....no kidding, that's how musically illiterate i am.... Well, don't feel bad about it; they really do sound a lot like guitars on leechwife. And to someone who hasn't had a lot of exposure to cello sounds and all the stuff you can do with it, it would be easy to make the mistake. katie [1]- I'm really sorry about never really getting back to you on the tabs. It was partly due to my losing your address, partly due to many bad things that happened in the last few months, and out of lack of time and forgetfulness. I'm working on them again, and I *will* do the best I can at getting some to you. I have most of "Why Don't you Do Right?" done now. I just have to work on the solo. - -- * ICQ#1791425 — AIM: naeelah * As featured by Papa Pan! * "restaurant that never has to close / breakfast every hour / * it could save the world" -Tori ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Oct 1998 18:58:57, -0500 From: FLSD68E@prodigy.com (MORPHEUS FIVE) Subject: DeBeers...........
