Starting by addressing the rest of the mailing list as "children" isn't the best start. And no, teenagers aren't children. They're teenagers, gawd damn it.. :P << everyone is entitled to their tastes >> Very true. << As far as music critics go . . . they're paid to write long, wordy, detailed reports about music. Again, this depends on tada OWN PERSONAL TASTES. >> We know. We weren't getting our underwear stuck too far up our asses over it; we were just a little irritated with what the critic had to say. And that's how it usually is with what any critic has to say about any decent album. << Yes, that's right children, we are entitle to them. Now if you angsty, whiny, CHILDREN of the night are done whining about how you're not old enough to get into these older clubs, have you ever considered the fact that older people would rather /not/ be around you? >> Oooh, we're The Goths, the Children of the Night, beware. ::becomes circe nightshade and waves arms around and scary music plays:: Wouldn't you be a little disappointed if you couldn't see one of your favorite music groups perform because you were underage? And yes, I can't stand being around younger people (I totally agree with what someone else said, even people my age are annoying.. I'm 14 and all high schoolers drive me up the wall). But the fact that 18+ people might not like being around us doesn't have anything to do with why we can't get in.. as someone else already pointed out, it's because of the alcohol and general atmosphere. << The world revolves around PEOPLE WITH MONEY. People under 18 don't usually have as much money. >> I think that if someone can pay, they should be allowed in. From what I heard, tickets weren't very expensive for at least one of the shows I heard a price from. And by cutting out an age group, you're cutting out potential ticket sales.. but if the only places Rasputina can get gigs in are bars and 18+ places, I guess it's better than nothing. That's where bands start, and move up to bigger/better venues.. and hopefully all ages venues. << It's odd, though. How much money is made, and how much of it we spend trying to forget the unhappiness of our lives. What's even funnier, is that now we have the power to decide what we want our lives to be, but we're still unhappy with them.. This has been bothering me for the past few weeks. Is all this advancement really worth it? Is prolonging our lives, but being emotionally immature for a longer time really worth it? Are we that much better off for all of our advancements? And have we made any major social advancements? >> Are you trying to sound like a philosophizing scholar? I agree, but I don't see what that babbling has to do with many Rasputina fans being disappointed that they're only playing in 18+ venues. Someone on this list called sony and asked them about the tour, and the guy said that their ALL AGES tour starts in march. so this is obviously some sort of warm-up-lets-get-our-shit-together sorta deal. probably to practice with their new drummer, whomever he/she may be. SO for all this "why dont they have variety of shows?" and "i want a shirt!!" just be patient! gosh, you all sure got REALLY annoying REALLY quick! toriniss, steve (who is beginning to wish he didnt post the tour dates!) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Sep 98 12:26:47 -0700 From: sung@mactechs.com (Sung Kikko) Subject: Re: goths-digest V2 #140 Rumor has it that they're going to be going to Portland too. (ex. LOOKOUT RECORDS) since bands are backed financially by their labels for their tours, they play where they are told, basically. a lot of clubs have rules about 18+ because of smoking, basically. i agree that it isnt fair. i am 21, but i dont mind when younger people are at the shows. i really agree with chris' statement that music is universal and that it should be enjoyed by people of all ages. love, melinda ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Sep 1998 13:29:42 PDT From: "Burgundy Wine" Subject: to michael sukovich hey sukovich, i'm addressing this to you as a reply to your reply. you don't have to tell me about respecting somebody's personal taste, i've pushed that argument many times. in referring to the artsy music critic, there's no reason why you can't critique a critic's review. the bitch was good with words and very thorough, but her reasons didn't impress me at all. i referred to her as your average music critic because her style follows the usual pattern with experimental bands if you think about it. when it comes to something new, critics are always thinking, "what the fuck!?", rather than trying to figure it out. anyway, i don't think anyone is taking the review personally so you don't have to worry about it. reading between the lines, it's obvious how much you hate goth. well, so do i but what's there to complain about? it doesn't necessarily say everything for the personality of these people. just be happy that you're getting information about the band through this list thing. and the age factor: i'll let you know you're not the only adult here but speaking for the list as a whole, you're attitude isn't appreciated. personally, i don't care how old the audience is, as long as they don't get in my fucking way and aren't assholes/bitches to deal with, i'm fine. haven't you noticed, age doesn't make a difference at shows? even the older cult following of nick cave was very stupid, i wasn't impressed at the last show i went to. >Personally, I remember someone from here complaining about how the three >ladies completely ignored him after a concert. if i were them, i'd want to get the fuck out of a crowd of strangers as quick as possible as well. or maybe they're just bitches. i guess we all agree that just because they make good music, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to like them as people. you don't know them at all! it's none of our business what kind of people they are. > It's odd, though. Just checked the satyricon website, and there was no listing. but it was updated on the 23rd... However, there was nothing listed for the day before or after the seattle show, so I guess I will just have to wait a few more days and cross my fingers. unfortunately for a friend of mine who is going to be 21 on the 30th of october, it's a 21+ club. fortunately for me, it has a full bar (a true rarity in the pacific NW). *whee* - -Posbina * . * * I make no friends, i've got no spark * . * * . . * . * . .
