Personally, I remember someone from here complaining about how the three ladies completely ignored him after a concert. Now, if that's true, it might lend a bit of truth to the critic thinking that Rasputina thought that they were much cooler than everyone else.] As far as music critics go . . . they're paid to write long, wordy, detailed reports about music. Again, this depends on tada OWN PERSONAL TASTES. Yes, that's right children, we are entitle to them. Now if you angsty, whiny, CHILDREN of the night are done whining about how you're not old enough to get into these older clubs, have you ever considered the fact that older people would rather /not/ be around you? Believe it or not, it's true!!!! The world revolves around PEOPLE WITH MONEY. People under 18 don't usually have as much money. For you poor, misguided souls who believe that clubs exist to bring you music, think again. They make much more money off of a customer getting drunk than people coming to listen for musical enjoyment. It's odd, though. How much money is made, and how much of it we spend trying to forget the unhappiness of our lives. What's even funnier, is that now we have the power to decide what we want our lives to be, but we're still unhappy with them.. This has been bothering me for the past few weeks. Is all this advancement really worth it? Is prolonging our lives, but being emotionally immature for a longer time really worth it? Are we that much better off for all of our advancements? And have we made any major social advancements? *shrug* I'd rather like your input on this, if you don't mind -Michael ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Sep 1998 23:47:16 -0400 From: rain Subject: Re: shirts!! Believe it or not, it's >true!!!! Michael, you asked for our input on this, so here it goes: First, I think that, with the condescending tone of your letter, you will not find many supporters of your views. Second, music transends all age barriers. It has been written that music is a universal language, and that is true. In response to your statement that older people would rather not be around us, that may be your view, but I believe other, kinder and more open minded people would not mind our presence while we enjoy the same music that they do. If we enjoy the same music as you, you cannot deny us a concert simply because you "do not like us." If you would deny us a concert because of our age (and thus, you "do not like us"), then God help you when you are old and crippled and the younger ones laugh at *you*. It seems then that Rasputina should be more concious of their fan base. I am delving into unfamiliar territory here, but I am guessing that it is the band that ultimately decides with club they will be playing at, and I assume that they also are aware of age restrictions with their clubs. Rasputina has to be aware that a large percentage of their fan base is aged 14-21. After touring with Manson, such a fan base obviously must exist. I suppose it is much the band's fault for choosing a 18+ venue as it is the venue's. > It's odd, though. How much money is made, and how much of it we >spend..... Is all this advancement really worth it?..... These statements just make me wonder if you're feeling really insecure and taking it out on the rest of us. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Yep. But not every "child" has a child's mentality. And the majority of the adults I know don't mind talking to or being around "children" who don't. > Believe it or not, it's > true!!!! I have no doubt that it is. I'm fifteen, and even I can't stand people who act my age (or younger). Unfortunately, most people my age *are* pretty immature. And I'm sure I can be, at least from time to time [I generally don't consider myself to be immature, but who's to say I'm right?]. > The world revolves around PEOPLE WITH MONEY. People under 18 > don't usually have as much money. Actually, a lot of media has been focused to people in their teens because they *do* make a large consumer base. I forget the exact numbers, but I've read that the age group is worth quite a bit of money as a whole.... > For you poor, misguided souls who believe that clubs exist to bring you > music, think again. They make much more money off of a customer getting > drunk than people coming to listen for musical enjoyment. That's also true, but of course, there are a few cases where it's false. Some club owners really *do* open their businesses to bring entertainment or a certain culture to an area. And I'm sure they do make more money off of drinks than shows. As for age limits, the clubs have them because they sell alcoholic beverages; be it because they don't want a bunch of under-aged kids drinking or because if they have more underaged people they won't make as much money. I couldn't tell you anything about this without interviewing several club owners and managers. > > It's odd, though.
