I think I read somewhere that it's about the ancient practice of putting leeches on your body and having them suck your blood when you're sick...? I don't know, I could be wrong, but that sounds like the most accurate interpretation to me. Yours is interesting as well. My favorite songs on HWQTF would have to be (in no particular order): The Olde HeadBoard, Rose K., The New Zero, Watch TV, Trenchmouth, LeechWife, etc., etc., etc. > later > steve Kristin ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Sep 1998 22:11:19 -0400 (EDT) From: Steve Subject: [none] > Steve wrote: > > I think I read somewhere that it's about the ancient practice of putting > leeches on your body and having them suck your blood when you're sick...? Just using them for money or whatever they want or need. "Leeching" off of them until it gradually destroys their marriage. I think I like them about equally. I think I like ..Ether more now for some reason. I like the feel of it; it's different from HWQTF. I don't know how to explain it. HWQTF seems more expertly produced I guess, and they did use more drums/whatever else in it.. but that gets on my nerves sometimes. But I still love the album. My favorite songs on it since you asked (in no order of course) are.. 1. The Olde Headboard 2. The New Zero 3. Rose K. 4. Watch T.V. 5. Things I'm Gonna Do not that much different than everyone else.. does anyone else find it incredibly hard to choose favorite songs? Any two bit person with the right equipment could write this music. The Lyrics are . . . very teenybopperish. I almost threw the CD out the window at 120mph when I heard this track. I feel rather alone on this list when I prefer beautiful music and talent over purely electronic shite. Which is what Leech Wife and Ye Olde Headboard is. Electronic shite. Now don't get me wrong, some electronica is great . . . like Bjork, Delerium, Enigma, and FSOL. But the mixes and samples in those bands are . . . awesome. I mean, not much can match cruising down the interstate at 80mph, windows down, Delerium turned up, good bass beat pulsing throught the car, wind in your hair, vocals soaring through the air, letting your mind wander free while your body concentrates on keeping the car on the road. Music is powerful. Few people realize how much the right blend of acoustics can make you feel if you really listen. But so few really take the time to listen to powerful music. Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin all have a certain driving force behind their music, something that can make everything feel surreal if played correctly. There's more to it than "I feel and understand these words". There's MUCH more to music than lyrics. The voice is an instrument, and if the words and tone don't match the voice . . . it's still music, but lacks the power of a true artist. That's one thing I noticed between the new album and the old one. The first was much more powerful, had more conviction. The blend of voice and music was much purer. All around more artistic. I realize some of you don't care about this and just think it's cool music. Well, it is. There's just not as much to it as with other songs. *shrug* -Michael ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Sep 1998 03:24:22 -0400 (EDT) From: Steve Subject: Re: Mozart, Beethoven, hi, i just had a few things to say with regards to Michael's response to Tobias. > There is no singing, granted, there is music in the background, but > still, she fails to sing. i thought spoken word tracks meant that they lack music. oh well, im sure Tobias meant that it was her favorite track. > I feel rather alone on this list when I prefer beautiful music and > talent over purely electronic shite. well...you are not. i hate any kind of electronic music. except for bjork and massive attack. i don't really consider the new rasputina to be electronic music. anyways, what is electronic shite to you is beautiful music to another. > Which is what Leech Wife yikes!!! what is the point of leechwife, but to attempt metal? the words to leechwife are sarcastic and silly. which is exactly what cellists attempting metal is. if that isn't an example of lyrics fitting music, i dont know what is. > There's more to it than "I feel and understand these words". There's > MUCH more to music than lyrics. The voice is an instrument, and if the > words and tone don't match the voice . . . it's still music, but lacks the > power of a true artist. but see, this is your opinion. i agree with it somewhat, but i know a lot of people who feel that lyrics are a big part of the music. i know others who dont listen to music that has lyrics at all because they don't feel its important. people see things differently. > That's one thing I noticed between the new album and the old one. The > first was much more powerful, had more conviction. The blend of voice and > music was much purer. All around more artistic. i disagree. i think this is acheived on both albums, just in different ways. oh well, my point was, all the things you discussed in your post were your opinion. you should realize that all people dont listen to music for the same reasons, and no one reason for listening to music is the best. some people like vocals, some like lyrics, some like music, some like composition, some like the way all these things mesh, some like the ways some of these things mesh. im sorry. i just think its kind of funny for someone to say that one reason for listening to music is better than another. that's all. anxiously awaiting the tour (ug...march...), steve ------------------------------ End of goths-digest V2 #129 ***************************
