I FUCKING OBJECT TO BEING CALLED A GOTH JUST BECAUSE I AM ON > THIS GODDAMN LIST!!! Okay, the name of the list is 'the goths', since this is supposed to be a fan club type deal. When someone refers to the goths, they are talking about the list and people on the list in general, no one is trying to push you into the gothic subculture. The name was taken as a sort of joke because so many were pushing Rasputina into the 'goth music' or whatever stereotype. Even Melora jokes about it, although she doesnt believe it herself. Thats all =} Of course, we could always refer to this list as the goths and Micheal. ~Frances ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 15:04:33 -0400 (EDT) From: Happy Fantom Subject: Re: goths-digest V2 #123 hiyas, i just wanna send a big ol' THANKS to larry for calling columbia and getting all of that info for us. i'm glad they will do an all-ages tour. i'm 19, but i guess i look like im 15 or something because i still get carded sometimes when i go see a rated r movie. definitely cant pass for 21;) i agree with chris that we should all write in reviews and set lists to the list when we see a show. and about the bootleg thing, i dont think it's anything to worry about...i mean, there is an email list called "Tori boots" that has hundreds of subscribers...that's about as public as you can get! and about being goths....well. i dont consider myself one either..it'd be kinda cool if this list were to be called something rasp related...in my humble opinion:) maybe someone would finally acknowledge us!! toriniss, steve ps- is ANYONE going to the show on sept first? or going to try to anyways? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 16:24:16 -0500 From: Lori Subject: New Raspy Article!! BUT... I know that personally, I would like some sort of warning... I do not want to read ANY reviews... I really really want to be surprised... Like seeing a good movie, when someone tells you the plot and the ending... So if you don't mind, can we please put something in the subject line, such as "SHOW SPOILER" or something like that? I just want to go completely unbiased! :) Love Melinda ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 01:44:48 EDT From: Nahaliel@aol.com Subject: old vividzine review/rasputina 7" i found this while perusing the reviews at poor dead Vividzine.. (http://www.vividzine.com)..alright, so it's kinda old but it's of interest..and it raises a new thought: has anyone gotten their paws on any Rasputina vinyl? - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rasputina - 'Transylvanian Concubine' - (Oculus) - 7" EP Oculus Records; P.O. Box 148; Hoboken, NJ 07030 USA Writing this zine, I get to discover some recordings that I might not have had the courage to spend my money on.   Good things are what I've heard about Rasputina - interesting things, is more like it - such as they're three women cellists and a male percussionist/drummer (okay, there's nothing strange about that), who fancy wearing Victorian undergarments onstage, and that they've been produced by Ultra Vivid Scene's Kurt Ralske, but that alone wasn't good enough for me to seek them out, because I never heard any mention of their music .   Glad I was to receive this 7" EP in the mail, because wow! - I've got a new favorite band.   "Transylvanian Concubine" is waltz-y, almost "grungy" due to a low rumbling cello.   Vocals flit and flutter about like a butterfly in the sunshine, acting more like added instrument to the orchestral swirl.   "The Vaulted Eel" begins side two like a soundtrack setting a mood until the vocals chime in, reaching Elizabeth Fraser-highness.   "Lesson #6" is a short, instrumental piece that I've no doubt was designed to make one feel as if they're listening to an old classical record on a Victrola.   Complete with scratchy grooves, it reaches its desired effect. ***** (shane) ------------------------------ End of goths-digest V2 #124 ***************************
