I don't think this is really as terrible as you make it seem. You must admit that it would be annoying to always have people hanging around you and asking questions you've heard way too often. I've read essays by an author (Harlan Ellison - anyone here like him?) in which he describes the terrible experiences he's had with fans. After reading them I can understand why you would avoid fans sometimes. What I am having trouble understanding is why Rasputina would be that way. So few people know of them that I would think they'd be delighted to speak with anyone. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 11:28:27 EDT From: Fury318@aol.com Subject: Re: goths-digest V2 #65 In a message dated 98-06-08 04:02:10 EDT, you write: << wow...i really dont like that it actually makes me lose great respect for them as people >> I saw them talking with a woman before I tried to talk with them.I wonder if they though we were just trying to hit on them. You know not all guys just want sex. That was the first time I had heard their music. To all of you who haven't seen them play, don't pass up a chance to see their show. It is unbelievably great. I went out and bought the disk the next day. I am glad to see some real action on this list. I don't mind a litle wandering off of the goths/Rasputina subjects. Let's all just be ourselvesand enjoy each others thought and ramblings. Who knows you might just learn some things or become friends with a wonderful person who you might not have otherwise known. The treatment you got from Two of the Three: I'd call it Snobbery. There's no excuse for such rudeness. They might call it "Artistic Isolation", but hey: pretension by any other name is STILL pretension. Who's to say that they'll be nicer/more accomodating to any other fan who might happen to stop by and say hi? HI! ok, so i was reading my Musician magazine, the one with tori on the cover. Great article. i love this magazine because it focuses on the music and nothing else. kicks ass. WELL, i was flippin through the rest of it and lo and behold!! a full page Rasputina article near the end!! The article was called Rasputina Meets Chris Vrenna or something like that. well, he worked with them on their new album "how we Quit the Forest" and the article is more or less about how he felt about the whole thing. it was really good. At the end he said that this new album is as live as possible. (i wish i had the article with me so i could dish out some cool quotes, but alas, i do not). they also talk about a new sarcastic song called "leechwife". there is also a picture of him smiling at melora as she plays her cello. So, go get the magazine, and if you dont wanna dish out 4 bucks, go to the newsstand and read it there...its short enough for that. I am so excited for the new album now!!!!!!!!!!! YAYY!!!!!!! hehe:) later toriniss, steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Jun 1998 18:39:31 -0400 From: "Desdem0na" Subject: goths: I'm back already. heeeeeeeeeeey all, I'm back again in case any of you care. love, Julie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 23:35:54 -0400 From: sukovich@scsn.net (Michael Sukovich) Subject: Pretentious ladies Ok people, after discussing this with a few friends, I've decided that I'm not surprised at all if the three ladies are pretentious. THEY'RE GOTHS! Duh. Those three ladies are the closest to what I consider real goth. And I like them! They have the power to treat their fans like shit, be snooty and completely above them. Hell! If you had thousands of people who would bend over and take it like a catholic altar boy just for the chance to see you, you'd probably treat them bad, too! And this has no real point. I'm bitching just because I can. So nyah. I've read Ellison, by the way. Neat guy. Still think his best work was the "City on the Edge of Forever" script for Star Trek, The Original Series. VERY kickass. He also hates Disney. Good man. Even though I like a lot of their films, I still despise them. You've got to give them credit for Hunchback, though. They had a pole dancer as a central character in a movie intended for kids! AWESOME! They are working at corrupting a new generation! That reminds me, I got some really dirty looks wandering through the mall one day (Yes, I spend too much time there. It's free entertainment. Specially if you've got a friend who likes to overreact to things. Great time.) I started blabbering about how Disney was now making softcore porn. AND I PROVED MY POINT! Mothers were taking their children far away (not really) from me! (Look mommy! It's a man in a skirt! "Hey kid, call me Frank." You don't look like a hot dog! "Ahh, innocence!") Anyways, where was I? Oh yes, disney and softcore porn. I CAN THANK HARLAN ELLISON FOR PROVING MY POINT! Little Mermaid! Woohoo! -Michael (one moment, let me check my schedule. "Manic, depressive, manic, depressive, manic, ahh!" Ok, see you at two!) Name that movie and you get a flowbie free! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Jun 1998 21:27:01 PDT From: "puRe eNergy" Subject: personal hygiene & body modification Dearest Neanderthal Krod: Heheh. I was speaking in behalf of our dear Sara Lee Lucas, you inattentive buffoon. In which case you might have been too busy buggering your siblings, and so in fact you were not able to notice... Mustn't let your little beetle of a brain wander too much, my pet. You are sure to be exhausted that way. At any rate: you endear with me your petty replies. I musn't exert any more. The point being: Rasputina IS a group that performs to the public. They should be thankful that despite "assfaces throwing shit" (to quote another of our members on the list:), there are some who can and actually do appreciate their music. I had hoped for a more intellectual response from you, but it seems a rather tawdry waste. So Ka?
