And more.....(questions!) Hello!!!! - Sorry to wake everyone up.... :) ......this list's been a bit slow as of late (which is expected, seeing as the list is young, the band isn't touring, and there's not much to talk about with regards to their recently released EP), so let's see if I can wake it up a bit: If anyone hasn't noticed, I have compiled a FAQ for Rasputina that's posted on the fan web site. I'm looking for more questions about the band to add to the FAQ. Could people post their questions to this list and then anyone with an answer can answer - and I'll use the Q/A for the FAQ??? Also, I have a topic in the FAQ describing the purpose/theme of Rasputina's songs. Since many of the tunes are historically based, their topics are often obvious. Some songs that raise questions to their theme (at least, in my opinion) are: Stumpside, Rusty the Skatemaker, and Trust All-Stars. Anyone want to get a discussion going on any of these songs? Okay, fine....I'll start.....Stumpside: does anyone else think it describes either the life of a woman living on a farm or a colonial female? 'Peeling potatoes,' 'dirt floors make dust,' 'I carry candles,' 'fixing a fencepost or feeding a cow' - they all seem to support the idea of a colonial woman. Anyone make sense of the rest of the song?? Sorry if anyone was sleeping.....I'll be quieter next time. :) Chris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Sep 1997 21:29:06 -0400 (EDT) From: Twiglet667@aol.com Subject: Re: Hello? Questions. And more.....(questions!) Okay, this is my first contribution, so be nice. Following through with the idea of what Stumpside might mean.. I agree that it sounds like the life of a farm or colonial woman. I think the song describes how she's tired of her everyday hardship and wants to escape. I'd go into my interpretation line by line but that would be too long..but if you want me too, just e-mail me. I showed my dad the lyrics and he came up with something I though was interesting. What if we were to look at the song from the point of view of a woman accused of being a witch? He said "We come alone and leave alone and we look the horse in mouth; we scratch the skin and break the bone and see birds migrating south" bit sounded like something that might have come from an incantation. Anyway, my thoughts may be way off base..but thats what I got from the song. ------------------------------ End of goths-digest V1 #15 **************************
