In America, where freshness above all is valued -- that which is new, rules. That's obvious. All the old school goth has mutated. Gothic music is becoming known as Marilyn Manson. MM is a freak show at best. I'd opt for German Darkwave. The scene there (especially Hannover) is fantastic! And as for Rasputina, who gives a shit? They're a cello band and fantastic. How come no one is ever on the Rasputina IRC channel? I've been on tons of times looking for all the other people on the list, hoping to meet another Rasputina fan, but I've had no success. C'mon, guys...the channel was created to chat...and where I live sucks so bad no one's even heard of Rasputina. Even I have to talk to someone decent once and a while. All right, I was lurking at first to check out what this list was all about and now I suppose I'll speak up... my name is Laura, also known as Mistress McCutchan... editor of print zine gone online "Morbid Outlook". Besides listening to Rasputina, I like a variety of gothic, darkwave, ambient, ethereal and folky music... too many bands to list here... I reside in NYC, I'm a web designer by profession and a part time instructor at Parsons School of Design. I am currently compiling the material for the new web installment of Morbid Outlook and am seeking writers of articles and fiction, photographers, illustrators, etc. Interested? Please send your work to me via email or snail mail at Morbid Outlook, P.O. Box 838, 128 East Broadway, New York, NY 10002-9998. The next "issue" will be uploaded before the end of this month and will be dedicated to my recently deceased cousin, Dan McCutchan. Please keep him and his mom (my aunt) in your thoughts and prayers (spells, or whatever else it is you do)... You can check out the current site at: http://www.parsons.edu/~lauram/morbidities/LM__HTML/ I also promote and design the site for Ophelia Unbound (the fashion designs of Michelle Korn, a MAJOR Rasputina fan!) You can check out that at: http://www.parsons.edu/~lauram/morbidities/LM__HTML/ Thanks for listening, Laura the Mistress McCutchan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 00:17:20 -0400 From: Tenchi Subject: Re: genre DiscoVampr@aol.com wrote: > Do we really have to label them? I like to use the term Synthetic Reality, these are groups who have developed their own reality, and their music comes from that. In most cases that reality may be a parallel to life, but is way more extreme than most are used to. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 03:24:58 -0400 (EDT) From: MerdeTu@aol.com Subject: Re: genre DiscoVampr@aol.com wrote: > I guess if you really wanted to label them you could call them one of > these: > 1. Not to be rude but, where the fuck did "grunge" fit into anything concerning Rasputina?! How 'bout Instrumental Ensemble, or Baroque - esque Proserpina Goddess of the Underworld ------------------------------ End of goths-digest V1 #9 *************************
