Personally, I don't feel that Rasputina fits into any category. It's been established that they aren't 'Goth'.......Melora said it best once when she said, "people struggle to classify us, and it's funny to us. We've never even discussed it." If the actual band isn't interested in qualifying themselves into a genre, how can we? They're one of the few bands that really doesn't fit into any category. Definitely not 'modern rock,' that doesn't explain enough. 'Alternative' is true, but rather vague. They certainly have classical overtones; just listen to any section without vocals. The three-cello-only moments could easily be packaged on a Yo-Yo Ma CD and set right next to Bach and Vivaldi. I don't think qualifying Rasputina into one genre does them justice. If you want to give readers a sense of what Rasputina really sounds like, you'd have to string a whole slew of terms together into a new genre: something like 'folk-rock meets modern rock meets classical music'. Other opinions? These days Americans eat too much fat and protein! I don't tell you what to eat, so don't you dare put down vegetarianism! Live and let live (and if you don't like it, do whatever it is you do, schmuck!)
