Jen Chapin, daughter of 70's singer/songwriter, Harry Chapin, is a New
York-based singer-songwriter making her mark on the music scene with an
intense
blend of folk sensibilities and political awareness. Chapin was born into a
family
of artists and academics, and her own life has seen both of those pursuits.
Before becoming a full-time musician, Chapin had earned a degree in
International Relations at Brown University, then enrolled as a freshman again
at Berklee
College of Music. After completing her education, Chapin relocated back to
New York and has become a regular presence on the city's vibrant music scene.

Jen has toured the East coast, West, South and Midwest, given TV performances
ranging from the WB Morning News to Late Nite with Conan ObBrien, and given
birth to a baby boy. Along the way, she has recorded with her band a fresh new
album of 11 songs of desire and frustration (both personal and political),
whimsy and hopefulness b Ready.

As a committed social activist, Jen has worked hard to interweave her musical
and political passions. She chairs the Board of Directors of WHY (World
Hunger Year) -- an organization co-founded by her father, the late
singer-songwriter Harry Chapin -- and helps to support WHY's role as a leading
advocate for
innovative, community-based solutions to hunger and poverty.

That is why we are making this very special house concert a fundraiser for
our favorite local charity, Neighbor To Neighbor.B  N2N is a 501(c)(3)
organization that combats hunger among impoverished children living in
Highland ParkB and
Highwood by purchasing grocery store gift certificates for their families. In
addition, itB providesB financial assistance in the event ofB other
emergencies
(e.g., impending homelessness or critically needed medical care)B  when they
threatenB the well-being of these children.

A portion of the $20 suggested donation goes to support the efforts of
Neighbor To Neighbor.B  Thank you for being a part of this house concert in
support
of fine acoustic music and a local charity.B  You all are sharing in what a
community really can do.

Hi, All

    I have been a lurker on this list for a long time, but I thought this
might be of interest to list members in the Cleveland area.

    I have John Gorka to thank for my love of the "singer/songwriter" genre,
and for getting me into hosting house concerts (it was an article about John
at a house concert that got me started).  I have also checked out many of
the artists that Gorka associates with.  That's how I discovered Lucy
Kaplansky, and Lucy led me to Richard Shindell.

    I am very lucky to be hosting Richard Shindell for a house concert on
