I have a little synchronistic story to share. 2006 was a rough year for me. I feel like I came through it pretty much unscathed (on the outside) but on the inside, lets just say I experienced things that made me stronger, made me question all that I believed in and helped me see who I want to be and how I want to walk in this world. As you might imagine, music helped. Old music, new music. A music junkie friend in Seattle sent me a song a while back, the one I shared with you here, Belief by John Mayer. This CD, Continuum is my first Mayer CD and I find myself turning to it a lot. A lot. So here is the story. I was driving home from work, cold, wet night, and reached into the CD holder in my visor to find Continuum. I pushed it in and moved it to track 4. This is what I expected to hear: Gravity is working against me And gravity wants to bring me down Oh I'll never know what makes this man With all the love that his heart can stand Dream of ways to throw it all away Oh Gravity is working against me And gravity wants to bring me down Oh twice as much aint twice as good And can't sustain like a one half could It's wanting more That's gonna send me to my knees Oh gravity, stay the hell away from me And gravity has taken better men than me (Now how can that be?) Just keep me where the light is Just keep me where the light is Keep you all where the light is Just keep us where the light is Ohh.. where the light is! I guess from the lyrics you might be able to tell what kind of day it had been. I was feeling old, tired, lonely....the only thing I can truly rely on it feels like some days is gravity. Well, that is not the CD that got pulled from the visor and instered in the CD player. Nope. It was, instead, Gorka, Old Futures Gone. When I punched in Track 4, well, here is what I got: Outside I just want to get a little bit out of my head I just want to get a little bit out of my head What I want is what I said, get a little bit outside of my head I just want to get a little bit out of my head. I want to get a couple hundred miles from here I want to get a couple hundred miles from here I've hung my hat in disgrace, now I just want to get out of this place I want to get a couple hundred miles from here I want to have a party tonight I want to have a party tonight Get my head to the level of a flying kite or be digging in the garden of delight I want to have a party tonight Want to make a new story in the glory of the morning light Want to make a new story in the glory of the morning light Beat back sorrow for a little while, do it again with a little more style Make a new story in the glory of the morning light Want to ride on the river till the river takes my cares away Want to ride on the river till the river takes my cares away Want to ride on the river till the river runs dry or I grow wings and learn to fly Want to ride on the river till the river takes my cares away Want to make a new story in the glory of the morning light Want to make a new story in the glory of the morning light Beat back sorrow for a little while, do it again with a little more style Make a new story in the glory of the morning light Want to ride on the river till the river takes my cares away Want to ride on the river till the river takes my cares away Want to ride on the river till the river runs dry or I grow wings and learn to fly Want to ride on the river till the river takes my cares away Away, away, away ... Yea, gravity and getting out of my own head. I smiled at the idea that all track 4's are the perfect song any mood. And it works. Did anyone hear the rumor that a brand new Gorka website is in the works? What? You don't believe it? Happy New Year Gorkaheads.
