Just got back last night from seeing John Gorka (and many others) perform four times over as many days at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, New York - absolutely amazing! Found many, many posts on this list - which has been all but dead for . . . years? Hi, Susan; long time, no communications! John's brand new CD; "Writing in the Margins", was on sale at Falcon Ridge and I picked up a couple of them. Damn, that boy is good; better than ever, as a matter of fact; in a league of his own . . . especially when he performed "Lockkeeper" for us on the main stage. John sang several songs from his new CD, participated in the Phil Ochs memorial songfest (of which they also offered a double CD, and, of course, I had to have one of those, too) and performed on the workshop stage twice as well. Thanks, Paula-Bryn, for helping to get all this "good-noise" list activity started up again and for being here just as I returned from yet another incredible musical experience. Later I'll quote from some of the bumper stickers that I bought at Falcon Ridge, give more information about the festival and it's new location, etc. Here's just one, as an example: "I Never Thought I'd Miss Nixon" More to follow, and they are just as good, or better! But now, it's back to work - busy, busy, busy . . . Thanks! I was a long-time volunteer in the kitchen at Falcon Ridge. It was sad that I had to miss this year and last but I am finishing up some doctorate work and couldn't make it. I can visualize that Friday night song swap...how amazing was it? How was the interplay between Cheryl, Christine and JOhn...there had to be some beautiful tales and jokes. Thanks again. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "steven mcgraw" To: Sent: Tuesday, July 25, 2006 11:32 AM Subject: RE: Lockkeeper, Falcon Ridge & "Writing in the Margins" > Hello, Paula-Bryn et al! I was in the far "15 Acre" (quieter, lower per capita porta-potty use) camping area; arrived on Thursday morning, departed on Sunday afternoon. No motorcycle trip this time; drove my old Dodge Caravan and used a slightly (three times?) larger tent than the one you saw at Kerrville. Have a political obligation each Labor Day for the next two years but hope I can get to Kerrville next spring. Certainly miss seeing you and Judi and Bill and Eric and Paul and all the rest there in Texas. In addition to the "regulars", was particularly impressed with "Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams." Please stay in touch (better), and thanks again!
