Hi, all, I haven't received any posts from this list in a loooong time and just rejoined to make sure this post would be accepted. Is there a way for me to access any posts I might have missed? This morning the author Alfred Lubrano was interviewed on PBS's Weekend Edition about his new book "Limbo" Blue Collar Roots, White Collar Dreams". Lubrano grew up in a blue collar family which urged him to go to college so he could get a white collar job. As part of the book he discusses how it was hard for his blue collar family to understand the way college changed Lubrano and what a white collar job entailed. When Lubrano told his family that his first job after graduating from undergraduate and graduate school would be in Columbus, OH, his father asked where the hell Ohio is. Lubrano told him that Ohio is somewhere west of New York City. Then: "It's like Jersey only more so." Of course that's not an exact JG quote and even reverses the state which is "more so" but it certainly sounds to me like Lubrano has heard "I'm From New Jersey". If you'd like to listen to the entire interview, you can find it at: http://www.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.php?prgDate=26-Oct-2003&prgId=10 . I don't know if the Gorka posts are archived, but I can email you the ones I haven't deleted from recently. There hasn't been much. Robbie, Hi--saw you at Old Town School last week, but you were deep in conversation, and I didn't want to interrupt-- I noticed the apparent homage to JG in the interview this morning as well--I kinda hoped that the author would give the credit, as John always does when he is inspired by or takes quotes from other writings-- hope you are well-- Sara ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Oct 2003 22:03:53 -0500 From: "Roberta Piper" Subject: Re: A John Gorka fan? >I don't know if the Gorka posts are archived, > but I can email you the ones I haven't deleted from recently. We plan to return on Friday. How are you these days? Robbie ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V6 #56 *******************************
