Now wait a minute I said....TOO MUCH INFORMATION! She then explained that since she and I have been going out on these live music excursions she has begun a sort of internal rating system. She says lots of the performers are fun and good and she likes them, but the ones she finds that can hit that G spot are few and far between. Explanation: G spot stands for "Gorka" I was the one who took her six summers ago to The Great River Folk Festival to hear Gorka for the first time. She has been smitten ever since. And I know what she means. There are few performers who can make that same kind of connection, musically and lyrically. So, do the rest of you have a G spot kind of scale by which you judge musicians and writers? Who are they? For me, Buddy Mondlock, David Wilcox, Kevin So, Keb Mo...well, OK, Keb Mo is on the list because of what he does for that "other" G spot. SUMMER MUSINGS: I too have heard John perform Pilot Light (which he introduced as his Mother's favorite song) but the song(s) I would love to hear in live performance are his songs of Crime and Punishment. Music I am listening to that is not in my usual rotation: The Orphans, a Chicago area Rock Band. Also listening a lot to a new CD by Gary Gackstatter called "under this kansas sky, moon and stars. Gary is known on this list for conducting the Winfield, KS Symphony back in the winter of 2000, in an evening of Gorka songs, along with John himself. If there was ever a concert I wanted to be at, it was that one. He is a pretty amazing guy, check out his writing, his art and his music at: Gary Gackstatter musician songwriter singer artist conductor symphony composer Book: Just finished A Fine Balance, but the book I have at my side most of the time since it was given to me by a friend is Jacob The Baker, Gentle Wisdom For a Complicated World by Noah benShea. Great idea Sara. Glad you started this thread. Anyone seen John this summer? I mean, if you go to his web site looking for tour dates you might assume he is not touring at all anymore...... Hope all goes well in your worlds. Namaste, Bryn, the music junkie ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V5 #73 *******************************
