I am passing along a reveiw of a recent MA Gorka show. My friend Jim Kelly (who is not on this list) sent it my way and with his permission I share it with all of you. Wait until you see what the encore song was....has anyone else heard him do this one live? I also like that he skipped Love Is Our Cross To Bear in favor of a couple others from the I KNOW CD. From JVKelly: The concert was the best of the five that I have seen since December due to song selection. JG did Mill Town and Winter Cows, from his first CD, skipping Love is Our Cross to Bear and Branching Out, and the change was fun. In addition Alice Peacock did back up vocals for more than 1/2 the songs, and they seem to be even more in synch now since I saw them together in March. The venue had its own piano which JG used to play the Eddie Arnold song "You Don't Know Me", which is my favorite JG cover. By the way I asked JG at the break to play "Over There", from his new CD, and after a little hesitation he agreed. I felt a bit guilty afterwards because he had to get both his finger picks, which he uses on the song, and the lyric sheet, which caused him to stumble over a line. The best part was the encore which was the cover of the Curits Mayfield song "People Get Ready", which I had never heard him cover before, and I am assuming he has not done it too many times! He frantically searched through his packet of lyrics which eventually ended up strewn in a various heaps on the stage. JG gave up looking for the lyric sheet and winged it. I believe he actually made up a lyric or two as Alice Peacock almost broke out laughing on a couple of occassions. It is always nice to have a little "chaos" at a JG show.
