I had a disturbing encounter today...turned into a Gorka moment. I was visiting a close-out store called Amazing Savings. I was there hunting a bargain on candles for the house...you can never have enough candles burning during the mortal groove time of year. Well, I am bent down looking at this large (and ugly) floating candle thingy when a woman starts yelling, "He stole my wallet, that man has my wallet!" As I looked up I was bumped by a well dressed man -- black leather jacket, black leather gloves, shiny shoes. I watched as he walked quickly but not alarmingly, towards the front door. People just watched him walk out. I scrambled and followed the woman, who was still yelling, out the door. Together we stood in the driveway looking for him. He had disappeared. Someone inside phoned the police while this frightened woman searched the sea of cars for the man. My eyes scanned the parking lot but it was empty except for the few old folks exiting the Senior Services Activity Bus. I waited with her until the police arrived. I told them what the man looked like but explained that I was bent down on the floor when he bumped into me. I saw his shoes and kaki's and that black leather jacket and gloves. The woman thanked me and it was as I turned to go back inside that I experienced my Gorka moment. I saw a shiny penny, face down right by the door. I picked it up, turned it over and saw that it said 2002. This is my first encounter with an 02 penny. I smiled to myself and slipped it into my bra, a special penny to put in my jewelry box...a memento of a chance encounter with a thief. Chicago is so cold the past two days....and me heading to Minnesota tomorrow for spring break....yea, that mortal groove time of year...gets to me every time. Hope you are all well. This list has turned deadly quiet. Thanks to Robbie for posting about the recent Indy show. Who else is here these days? How many are we? Come out and say hello, make yourself known.
