And, after being without my computer for the past ten days, I must admit that it's a strange feeling. Please excuse me while I begin reading my 268 messages! I've really missed you, boys and girls . . . Thanks! Steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Feb 2002 12:28:24 -0500 From: "cycle12345" Subject: "Olympic Emotions" Since the early morning hours of September 11, I've been experiencing various emotions of nearly "olympic" proportions. I'm certain that I am not alone in having these feelings, yet when the Olympics first began two weeks ago, I didn't remember to watch the opening ceremonies. However, as friends and co-workers related that initial experience to me, I realized how important this year's winter games were going to be, and I became an avid, fervent fan. I was somewhat puzzled by the controversies which erupted during the games, yet, when taken into consideration with all that's been going on in the world for the past five months, it was understandable, justifiable, forgiveable. The more I watched, the more I listened, the more I learned. I learned that I didn't care much about which nations won the various events, but I found that I was very interested in the individuals who tried so valiantly and the teams which competed so courageously, whether they won or not. Most of them were young, but some were not. Most of them had worked toward these goals for most of their lives, but some had not. Most of them would be back again, but some would not. All of them were winners, whether they took home medals . . . or not. And we who watched and listened and applauded and cheered and hoped for the best were the biggest winners of all. For a few days we could look forward to the next day's events, we could push away the sights and sounds of war, we could see smiling faces and hear the laughter of victory or admire the graciousness of defeat. Now it's over . . . but it isn't. In four short years, the flame will be rekindled in Greece, and then elsewhere. In the meantime, hope has been rekindled, too. Thanks, Olympians, for delivering to us those wonderful olympic emotions. Please stay with us. Steve ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V5 #23 *******************************
