He also was playing What A Wonderful World, a Louie Armstrong song. At the concert last weekend John played In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning, a favorite Sinatra song of mine and after the show I overheard someone tell him that she would quit her job and market John full time if he would do a Gorka sings Sinatra. the seriousness of the offer and the smile on John's face got me to thinking....what if he DID to an album of covers. Would you guys buy it? What would you want to see on it? I wrote here before that I would love to hear John sing Sentimental Journey. Name some others....or do you think the idea sucks? Wishing you all sunshine during this Mortal Groove time of year. And welcome Serafina.....I look forward to seeing you again soon. I did enjoy hearing "In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning" last weekend, but I think I would want a live album before an album of covers. Sara P.S. I'd buy any album John recorded. - ----- Original Message ----- From: ThePsyche@aol.com Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2002 11:50 AM To: good-noise@smoe.org Subject: Gorka sings Sinatra A few years back John has a couple Sinatra songs in his set, especially towards the end of the evening he would pull them out. My favorite Sinatra song is "Fly Me to the Moon." John singing the phone book sounds good to me, so YEAH I would buy it. Here's another thought, I think Cliff Eberhardt could do a bang up job on Sinatra too. I bet Lucy would do great as well. So, an all Sinatra with various artists could be a cool thing. Oh, and then Christine doing Nancy Sinatra - "Boots" *LOL* Seriously, an album like "A Nod to Bob" but of Sinatra would be a very cool thing. As of this evening we have collected 322 pairs of socks. At the end of the concert last weekend we were at 296...then one of the people who was unable to attend told me not to send her a refund, but instead, spend the money on socks. Thanks to Bunny, I went out today and purchased 26 pairs of socks for men, women and children and still had enough to get myself a coke on the way out of Target. I am so sorry you missed the concert but your donation to the sock drive is generous and much appreciated. Tomorrow my son and I will head up to the shelter, deliver the socks and drop off a John Gorka CD for the family room at the HELP Center. Don't worry, it isn't Land of the Bottom Line....that would be cruel and unusual punishment to have that playing in the center where so many folks are living where the bottle breaks and under pigeon bridges...or at the very most these folks are standing on the corner in the shadow of doubt as they wind their way through some thorny patches. I went and bought the Company You Keep to give to the Center Director. John was given all your personal notes you had attached to the sock donations along with a letter from the center thanking him and us for our efforts. Thanks to each of you who participated. Because you took the time to give of yourself, others you will never meet will have warm feet on those January Floors. I appreciate the wonderful community of music fans we have here. Her name is Michelle Bloom. She sold a bunch of CDs after both shows and had people around her wanting to know more. The CD she sold was only a five song CD sampler, just her and her guitar....a clean crisp production. You all should check her out, especially those of you in California. Her web address is: michelle[bloom] - the official website Perhaps the best recommendation I can give you so that you go and check her out is this: After the second show, John came over and handed me $10 for one of Michelle's CDs. She is an amazing writer with the voice of an old soul. She only had 200 of those promo CDs so run there quick to get one. Her CD will be released sometime this spring I guess. That's enough promotion from me for one night. Thanks for reading. Someone else already summed up my feelings. I'd buy any CD that JG put out. I just love to hear him sing. Of Course, I do love the songs that he writes and sings the best.
