The site has been revamped and updated and looks great. There are also several new performers just signed, none of which I have ever heard. I would like to know if any of you know them...curious and I am always looking for new music! The only one I am not familiar with is Jeff Lang. Toshi Reagon is fantastic -- her mother Bernice is a member of Sweet Honey in the Rock. Toshi can sing anything from gospel standards to pretty rocking folk songs and make them all her own. I saw her a couple years ago at a special concert in D.C. celebrating the release of collectable USPS stamps honoring folk legends (Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Sonny Terry and Josh White), Toshi was part of the tribute to Leadbelly. I've also seen her perform with Pete Seeger. She is a big, beautiful woman with a big, beautiful voice. I think you'd really dig her. Melissa Ferrick is mostly known on the womyn's music circuit (she is a very "out" lesbian), which is a shame because her stuff is really quite universal. I hate it when artists get pigeonholed by something like that. Gutsy vocals, smart lyrics, great guitar playing. If you like Liz Phair, Patty Larkin, Melissa Etheridge, anything along those lines, you might check her out. Seven Nations play often at the Ram's Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD (same place frequented by Gorka, DW, and others close to our hearts). I've never been able to catch them, but friends who have say they put on a great "can't sit still" kind of show. I really need to check them out the next time they come around -- will report in if I do! Melanie >The best place on the net to get John Gorka's tour schedule is at the FlemTam >site.
