Quit knocking scrapple--until you've tried it. I was born in Maryland, grew up eating scrapple, and loved the stuff. I would say the scrapple-test is a defining characteristic of the true Gorka fan. On a recent trip to Pennsylvania, my extremely kind brother-in-law got up very early one morning to get my husband and I some of the finest scrapple around, just so we could tell John someday that we had tried it.....I may be odd but I kind of liked it! Kind of a cross between cornmeal mush and ground up sausage. Not something I would rush out to buy again, but it was not TOO gross...:-) Susan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2001 13:44:42 -0400 From: Melanie Vandermark Subject: Re: Scrapple I ate a LOT of scrapple as a kid growing up in PA Dutch country, and sliced thin, fried crisp, and served hot covered with maple syrup it is really good stuff! When I got older and found out what was in it, and how much fat it had, I left the scrapple fold, as it were, but I'll admit to the occasional craving. I must admit I never thought about making it at home, but thanks for posting the recipe, Bryn! It was interesting reading. :-) Another thing we ate a lot of in Lancaster County was beef tongue. (No cravings whatsoever for that.) Anybody know if JG's ever immortalized that in song? ;-) Melanie (PA Dutch girl at heart but with greatly expanded culinary horizons, thank goodness) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2001 18:40:39 -0400 From: "cycle12345" Subject: Re: october concert in St. Louis And you call yourself the "Quiet Paula"? "Paula the Other", you are very funny, and not the least bit quiet. Hard for you to believe, eh? You're not "quiet", but you do have a great sense of humor, just like the other Paula . . . Thanks for making me laugh out loud at a time when that is much appreciated. Good luck on making it to the concert, albeit quietly . . .
