It seems the same old song has reared its ugly head here, that topic of bootlegs, only this time it is about who got one, who didn't and rubbing it in others' faces. My, aren't we a well actualized group. Personally, I agree with what was written. If that CD was to be offered privately then private it should have remained. Perhaps the kudos were coming from someone who was not clear that it had not been made public. I choose to give the individual the benefit of the doubt. But for those who DID know it had been a private transaction, you should have kept that information to yourself instead of fanning the flames. How can we become friends? This list limps along when it could be a dynamic community of people who share the common thread that is Gorka. I'd like to see us make a deep, lasting, positive change and build on the common love we share. As my way of aiding in the healing, I would like to offer my copy of Bootless to someone on the list free of charge. I will even pay for postage. In so doing, I am saying that I trust that you will keep it for yourself and not make any copies. It has never been about having all the really cool bootleg CDs to me. It has been about trying to find connections to the people who "get" Gorka the way I do. And that has happened here, people I have met and email. Where is all this coming from you ask? I had a pretty life altering experience this past weekend. What it was is not as important as what it did to me. The music in my life has helped show me what we are capable of if we follow that common thread. And it is directly because of a John Gorka song that I found a way to make changes in my life I needed. That, to me, if pretty fucking unbelievable. I am more interested in all of you than I am in who got the bootleg and who didn't. I don't want mine if what it brings is discord and anger and sets us apart in different camps. My best to all of you. And could you do me a favor, could you each email me, let me know you are on this list, tell me if I am "write" or wrong. Email me privately if you like, if you don't want to fan the flames. Peace, Bryn, my mantra: Go after what you love. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Aug 2001 13:31:57 EDT From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: cliques I replied offlist to Bryn, but I just wanted to say that I do agree about the private offering/private thanks deal. Quite frankly, I appreciate the fact that it was done offlist to begin with, knowing that the subject is a sore one around here. I don't like reading about it, nor would I have wanted one, so I appreciated not having it done on the list. Um, that's my way of saying "thanks", somehow. :-) SMOKEY ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 13:35:05 EDT From: Jojo7699@aol.com Subject: Re: cliques Hi there! Not sure what all the "hoopla" is all about as I just joined. Hope it works itself out as things usually do given time and patience. Good Luck! PS what list are you referring too?? Well, I though I'd better say something, and what I want to say is: you guys are scaring my cat! Okay, this must be a big misunderstanding and it is very honorable of Bryn to offer her copy of 'Bootless' to those who missed out. That should please the crowd. Thank you, Bryn. (I never got 'Between One and Eight' - hint hint...) I've never really been concerned about bootlegs. I've always felt that somehow the artist would survive the hit in the purse strings and probably earn more as a result of interest created by the bootleg. I wish every fan of JG could have a copy of these compilations created by his number one fan. Hi to my good-noise friends, my fellow Gorkans! Welcome to the group, JoAnn! Sam I Am! They ar enot live concert bootlegs or anything of that nature. I agree with Sam that I think it spurs interest in perhaps buying more material by the artist. I know that's what happens with me. He just has fun putting them all in one nice little package. He "sold" this one offlist specifically to avoid exactly what happened and had no real manner of choosing who got them other than those who had purchased from him before so he knew they would be interested. Nothing sinister. Jos is a great guy and means no harm to anyone on the list. He doesn't need defending but he is just a sweetheart and gets such a kick out of collecting these songs, and I am sure he doesn't mean to stir up controversy again. Welcome back Sam (and Sara) and hello to JoAnn. I have an avid interest in folk music and recently completed an 80 song 5 cd collection of the Best of Folk. I am happy to report that while I did identify with John's more introspective songs ten years ago that I also now can enjoy the happier ones. I was only teasing about the $15.95. One could tell from your note that you were in a generous and sincere moment.
