Had to switch e-mail addresses because the husband wasn't too happy about the volume of mail coming from the list. So, here I am under a new alias...where there's a will, there's a way :) Anyhow, thought I'd pass along a little review from last Sunday evenings show at The Concerts Under The Stars in King Of Prussia PA. We were first treated to a few songs from Mustard's Retreat. Don't know all the names, but one was the song about being a mid-westerner. I really enjoyed their (way too brief) set! Next up was Billy Jonas, formerly of The Billy's. I enjoyed The Billy's set when I saw them at the Philly Folk Festival before, but seeing Billy Jonas solo was a treat!! I could NOT believe the talent of this man! He "played" an empty 5 gallon water bottle and 2 buckets and it sounded great! Had bells around his ankles and used drumsticks with his feet for added percussion! Got the audience singing along too! I look forward to the next time I see this man perform! Next up is John. His set went like this: When She Kisses Me I'm From New Jersey Blue Chalk Let Them In (John on piano) Branching Out (said this one was for all the little kids that were there) Winter Cows (shouted out instant request) Morningside - he had to start this one over as he was off key A Saint's Complaint - this one was started over again too - he had forgotten some lyrics, so he said "Now, how bout I do the WHOLE song for you" :) People My Age I Saw a Stranger Lightning's Blues Oh Abraham Where The Bottles Break What Was That Love Is Our Cross To Bear ! Good Noise encore: Water Is Wide (John on piano) All in all, a wonderful evening...nice weather, a break from the kids and John Gorka singing...what more could anyone ask for?? Also (FINALLY) picked up The Company You Keep and have been enjoying it immensely. Jay - Have fun at Falcon Ridge! Take care, Kris - -- _______________________________________________ FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Talk More, Pay Less with Net2Phone Direct(R), up to 1500 minutes free! http://www.net2phone.com/cgi-bin/link.cgi?143 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 23:55:34 +0800 From: "Krisp Alicious" Subject: RE: Gorka in King Of Prussia 7/22/01 I'm right with you Tom! It's one of my favorites too! And I also enjoy Trout Fishing In America as much as (or more than) my kids. Some songs just speak to your inner-kid :) BTW, this was the first time I've seen John say anything like that leading up to this song. He had a bunch of younguns sitting in front of him tho - you can really see in moments like that how becoming a dad has affected him and his music :) I remember a show at the Painted Bride Arts Center in Philly a couple years back - it was an evening show and several people had brought their children. There happened to be a few large pillows on the floor right in front of where John was playing and some kids sat down there. They eventually fell asleep and it was a precious moment when one of them woke up later and started looking around for mom and dad. John just patiently waited for mom to come fetch the kid, then went on just like nothing had happened. Also, at this King of Prussia show, which was held in a park, someone's dog had gotten loose and ran up into the gazebo John was playing in. Some kids followed to get the dog. John joked that was the first time "fans had rushed the stage" - I absolutely love this man and his humor! Have a good one folks!
