Actually, it was sort of a spur of the moment thing. The post popped in, and I signed it and popped it back out. My apologies to those who were troubled by it. Sorry you missed John in Utah! I was looking forward to the review. But I'm sure the time was better spent with your friend. John and Alice will be at the Bottom Line on Thursday. Should be a great show. The place was really rocking last week with Greg, Lucy, Lucika, and Julie and Buddy Miller, who are just phenomenal live and whom I recommend to anyone who needs "energizing". I won't get there since I work late, but I will get to Falcon Ridge in July. Quite a line-up, including John, of course. Anyone going? Finally, I went to see Garnet Rogers in Saratoga Springs (Cafe Lena, small, intimate venue) last weekend. He is, of course, well-known as Stan's little brother, but I have always been enthralled with him in his own light. I arrived late and was ushered to a table (all to myself since it was stage left which, I guess, no one likes) which practically touched the stage, as well as all of his amazing guitars, which I examined thoroughly. It's been 5 or 6 years since I last saw him at Godfreys. I've been listening to his newest CD, Sparrow's Wing, (sublime recording!) which had a very nostalgic effect, so off I went. He talked a great deal more here than I remember his doing in the past. Stories (most very amusing) about Stan and himself, his wife, recent tours with Greg, and much more. The evening was casual and cozy, the performance, as always, Powerful. We had a rousing, well-harmonized chorus of Shotover River (Farewell to the Gold) which left us all ashivers, and to which Garnet responded, with some emotion, "Well done!" A very fulfilling evening which kept me company all the way home (4 hours). If you don't have Sparrow's Wing, you should get it. And if you've never seen Garnet, he's not one to let slip by. OK, off to work Take care all Shelley - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Sansone" To: Sent: Wednesday, May 23, 2001 8:50 AM Subject: Re: list ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 May 2001 18:09:13 EDT From: SAbrams613@aol.com Subject: Re: list To all: I really appreciate the concert reviews. Living in a "Gorka free zone", it's nice to hear first hand accounts of concerts. Keep 'em coming! I don't think he is ever in LA. But, I did get to experience him at the Kate Wolf Memorial Festival in Sebastopol last June. The problem with venues like that is that each artist only does a few songs. I would have LOVED to hear his Stan stories. I pine for Stan and also for Kate. The Greg Greenway, Lucy... show sounded like it would have been terrific too. I once saw Greg and Tom Prasada-Rao at a very intimate house concert in Malibu. It was a magical evening. Both of those guys were so nice too! Thanks for the mini reviews. Gina ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V4 #104 ********************************
