I have to agree with the distracted bit. One of my friends thought it might have something to do with the lights. He reminded me of a folk Columbo. *grin* I was seeing all kinds of mannerisms throughout the night and I kept thinking Columbo. It was brilliant. I loved the interlude when Alice asked him what he was doing (he had turned his guitar toward the monitor and was shaking it.) A long treatise followed about getting the extra notes out of the guitar in order to avoid a waxy buildup... LOL He then pointed out which cords aided in sunction in order to remove these excess notes and the monitor somehow became an intake duct. I think that was my favorite moment. Besides hearing "Oh Abraham" sung with Alice. She has a tremendous voice. But that's my .02 and my take, for what it's worth. :) Lisa :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 10:26:07 EDT From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: JG at Appel Farm April 21 Oh my. Did you think I was stalkin' you? Who me?!! I guess I should have introduced myself as a lurker first. I was thinking Alice wanted to get him to relax, and intentionally asked the question so he could tell the story. He has done enough shows with her, she has to have heard the story more than once. Colombo is a very good description for John's apparent discomfiture. The many times I have seen him, which is 2 or 3 times a year for the last 10 years, he has normally been so mellow, that Saturday was almost disturbing to me. I have seen him have sound problems, equipment problems, all kinds of glitches that crop up in any venue, and he has normally handled them all with grace and aplomb, frequently working the problem into the show as a joke. Don't know what the story was here, but it wasn't like John at all. What with the tapes not being delivered for sale and transportation problems on the tour, maybe he needs more administrative support. It is a lot to ask of anyone to handle all the details surrounding the show, in addition to the performance. Then I have definitely shown my inexperience with all things Gorka. *grin* I hope I'll be hearing that explanation for many more years to come. I have been lurking for awhile now and I had seen Alice's name around so it makes total sense to me that she would provide that lead in for him. I never would have thought that just from seeing the show. And I think they work well together. :) You mean he gets BETTER?! I have much to look forward to. Yay! Those details are a lot for one person to handle. It may have just been the bad start to the tour. Sometimes you just step off with the wrong foot and there's nothing to do but follow it through... Happy to be here and to have seen JG Lisa :) ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V4 #85 *******************************
