Between work demands and finance junk, I was not able to take you up on it. Hope some day soon I can. I noticed Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer are going to be at Schuba's Tavern in Chicago on Tues, Mar 13. I think Still on the Hill opens....dont know who they are but I saw Dave & Tracy and they were wonderful! Let me know if you go see them (or if you have booked them for a house concert). I'm the editor-in-chief of a new electronic magazine, eThis (http://www.ethismag.com) and I'd love to include a review of the new Gorka CD in the March 15th edition. Normally I'd write it myself but, unlike some of you, I don't have the CD yet. Any talented writers on the list willing to do a good, unbiased review? I can't offer payment, but I will include your byline, a one-paragraph biography, photo (if you have one,) and a link to your e-mail address, website, or whatever else you want linked. Please let me know asap. Thanks! Joe DeRouen http://www.ethismag.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 17:19:22 -0500 From: "cycle12345" Subject: Re: New Gorka CD review needed! Well, Joe, I would have to say that this would be a perfect opportunity for Susan Finn and/or Paula Bryn Benson to respond to your request since they are this list's official John Gorka "cyber angels" who also maintain a fantastic Gorka website known as "Gypsy Life" and viewable at the following address: http://www.geocities.com/thegypsylife/. I have also included their e-mail addresses herein, and I'm sure they'd like to hear from you right away. Thanks for coming to this list for information, Joe - you have done the right thing! Steve said: << Well, I can assure you that it wasn't intentional, youngster! Please share your definition with the list . . . >> According to my source "namaste" is an East Indian greeting similar to the Hawaiian greeting "aloha". It can mean "hello" or "goodbye". I did not realize until just now that this is actually the John Gorka list, not the David Wilcox list. I joined the JG list only yesterday and had planned to lurk a while before letting my presence be known. So I guess I had better explain why I am here on this list. I had listened to "Out of the Valley" several years ago and did not like it. Don't ask me why. Perhaps I was in a bad mood. Perhaps I just wasn't ready. I met Bryn through the David Wilcox list. Even on the DW list, Bryn made it clear: John Gorka is her favorite singer, hands down. Bryn is also a pusher. She pushed JG; I resisted. Until finally I gave in; I borrowed four of JG's albums from a friend. As soon as I heard "Good Noise", I knew I had goofed and goofed big time. I loved it! Now "Out of the Valley" is my favorite JG album -- so far. (I do have a bit of a problem with "Mystery to Me", which sounds mean to me; maybe some of you could give me your takes on that song.) I am attending my FIRST John Gorka concert Saturday night. I am SO excited! Oh, and BTW, I also know Steve from the DW list. I knew I hadn't seen anything about "namaste" on the DW list. And I know what a kidder Steverino is. :^) Robbie (female, just in case you wonder) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 21:07:08 EST From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: [wilcox] Re: Namaste? >>>I am attending my FIRST John Gorka concert Saturday night. But, I believe I'll see you at the Vance show next week? And I'll see John the week after in Maine, so all is good in Smokeyland. :-) I hope you enjoy John's show! What am I saying? I KNOW you will! (Incidentally; welcome to the John Gorka list - your nickname will now and forever be "doubting Thomas - the female"!) You see, gang, in my most honest and sincere attempt to locate for Robbie a meaning for "namaste" as she had requested on the DW list, I offered to her the fact that "Paula and someone else" had recently explained it and then I quickly defined it for her as being about "two people who 'admire' one another and become 'one'", and then I went on to say that their definitions would be more poetic than that which I had just written. Then Robbie returns with another message, accusing me of "pulling her leg" (wouldn't that be a "reach" from here, dear Robbie?), and I assured her that it wasn't intentional. Finally, Paula-Bryn ("Paula" on the DW list, "Bryn" on the JG list, and just plain "Mrs. Benson" at home) saved the day for me by offering this repeat of her earlier, more poetic, definition: - ---- Original Message ----- From: To: "Wilcox Open Discussion List" Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2001 9:36 PM Subject: [wilcox] namaste _ Namaste is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning: I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. Namaste, Paula So, Robbie; I can't decide whether to write "phhhhhttttttt!!!" or "nanny-nanny-boo-boo!" to you but, either way, you probably can better understand my sentiments, and you have now splashed yourself out onto the JG list in a hilarious way! (Note to all 100 or so JG listers: Robbie's a female, and a very nice one, at that, but we shall tease her for a few days hereafter, right Sam-U-Am, Sara-B-Awara, et al?)
