And, as always, big hellos to Steve, Susan, Bryn, Smokey, Picnic, Jos, Shelley, Kris, Dan, Mike, Susan in NJ, and the rest of you good folks! And now it's time for Samstuff! Yay! Vinnie Charles is three... Vinnie Charles is out of the playpen... Heh heh... Actually, I can't get over the way JG says, "He says..." after '"There's two things I know well."' And you can barely hear him say it after 'Just a favor for a friend.' For some reason I really get a kick out of it. JG is almost too damn good! And that line, 'Women flew under him as if he could fly.' He certainly has a way with words. My my. A guitar friend analyzed The Pick last night and he said that, in his humble opinion, JG had used The Pick for quite some time, possibly weeks, and that JG likes to keep the logo facing downward, hence the ink having been rubbed off only the eagle's right wing. I told him that, in my humble opinion, I thought he was wacky. But it was fun. I still haven't played my guitar with it yet. I'm not sure if I ever will... What a fantastic Valentine's gift from my amazing one Sara! Tonight we're dropping off the film to be developed. I've been praying to the Kodak gods that it comes out perfectly focused and that all three of us can be seen. If you remember, it's a picture of JG sitting down with Sara and I standing on each side of him. He has his arm around Sara (the nerve!) and I have my right hand on his shoulder. Maybe I should sacrifice a chicken tonight... Until next time then! Speaking of, someone took a very eerie photo of Ellis Paul recently. In concrete terms, it must be a double exposure where the flash and timing were not correct, but in not so concrete terms, it just MIGHT be someone from the spirit world joining Ellis onstage. :-) Whichever, it definitely creeped me out and made me glad *I* wasn't in the photo! If anyone wants to see it, let me know and I'll send it. Sam, hope there are no ghosts in your photos! They didn't serve alcohol that I can recall but I am sure there were many psychedelics floating around. I used to go to all the old ballrooms in San Francisco from about age 16 on. I recall the performers drinking backstage at times but all I can recall being sold at the Fillmore was orange juice! There were some great old clubs and some great ones across the bay too. Berkeley was where the COOL artists performed. At the Fillmore, for $3.50 you could go see the Who, Elton John, the Small Faces with Rod Stewart, the Kinks, all the San Francisco bands, lots of blues artists as Bill Graham loved the blues. It was a great place to grow up and in a great time. But I don't recall any folk artists at these venues. Come to think of it, I did go to an event called the Monterey Folk Festival in about 1968 maybe where people like Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Mimi Farina (Joan's sister), and many many others performed. To see folk artists, we definitely had to pretend to be older as they tended to play at the smaller (darker, smokier!) clubs in San Francisco. I vaguely recall seeing Tim Buckley at a little club but I must have been about 19 by that time. And the Gorka tie-in? None except he still has the most beautiful voice of anyone I have ever seen perform. No matter how often I hear the same old songs repeated, the elegant purity of his voice stuns me. 11 more days, Bryn!
