That was very nice of you to take the time to transcribe the "PMA" lyrics from the "AP" video; I had forgotten that "PMA" was included on it. I knew you could/would do it, kid; you are a very good and thoughtful person, and I'm sure that "Betty" is (would be) most proud of her excellent daughter! You make this list so much better . . . Thanks from all of us! (http://www.theartistsprofile.com/gorka.htm) I am going to order it as soon as I can telephone it in (they don't have a secure web form, or I'd just order it online) I want to get the one on David Wilcox, too. Wish there was a video about Steve Goodman! I really love Raven in the Storm - it's tied for my favorite Gorka tune. It's dark and I think it is Evil speaking , but I feel like this song is the best example of John's magic with words - I think The World Cafe said he was the Master of the Turn of a Phrase. This is it exemplified! Tammy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 17:46:55 EST From: SAbrams613@aol.com Subject: Re: Scary Stuff Way. Really. (Grin). I'd love to hear JG talk about the song, if he would be willing to. I'm always hesitant to ask. He seems to be a very private person and I'd hate to intrude on his privacy. Barbara ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 19:28:03 EST From: ThePsyche@aol.com Subject: The Raven in The Storm I found this bit of info on ravens and thought I would share it as it sounds suspiciously like someone we all listen to, admire and wonder so much about. "...the raven is big, black, and beautiful. Its highly glossed plumage shows iridescent greens, blues, and purples, shining like a black dewdrop in the light. It dives and rolls like a black thunderbolt out of the sky or speeds along with liquid, gliding strokes. The raven is the paragon of the air, and more. It is assumed to be the brains of the bird world. A deep, sonorous, penetrating voice demands immediate attention and respect. It has a greater variety of calls than perhaps any other animal in the world except human beings. It is an imposing bird and it is a mystery. As to John's song.....I find it I am captivated by it more and more each time I hear it. I am not so much frightened by it as I am in awe of the writing. He has taken all those dark cliches and strung them together bringing us face to face with our own fears. If it disturbs you......isn't that just the eternal truth about fear? It is always self imposed. Simply amazing. And I love the idea of printing out the lyrics and having them someplace where people can read them. How about over a toilet? I read it often throughout the day, before and after making rounds in the segregation units and on Death Row 5. I've read ravens were considered to be traditional omens of death and/or disaster in many cultures. I've always wondered what a lot of JG's references in the song mean. 'The Well In Mexico', anyone? "Raven In The Storm" - by John Gorka & Geoff Bartley 1990 I'm the latest apparition Cutting slices in the night I come through without permission Moving in and out of human sight I'm the tapping on your shoulder I'm the raven in the storm I'll take shelter in your rafters I'm the shiver when you're warm I'm the gold in California I'm the well in Mexico Like the vultures in the valley I will wait for you to go Whoa... I'm the gypsy in your pocket I'm the horseman in your dreams I'm the reason dogs are barking I'm the hand that stops the scream I'm the baby's cry that isn't I am the distant relative I'm the scratching in the ceiling I'm advice you shouldn't give I'm the ghost of a traveling salesman My foot will be there in your door Though I can walk through walls and windows I will knock just like before I'm the darkness in your daughter I'm the spot beneath the skin I'm the scarlet on the pavement I am the broken heart within I won't take a train to nowhere I will not touch just anyone Ask a stranger why I'm waiting In the chamber of a gun ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 23:30:12 EST From: SMOKEY596@aol.com Subject: Re: RITS Lyrics for those who asked Brrrrrrr! :-) SMOKEY Help Find Jill (http://www.alumni.indiana.edu/iuaa/jillbehrman/) "The memory is a useful thing, store the good stuff in the easy to reach places, put the rest in the attic with the cobwebs where it belongs..." - -Ellis Paul ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V3 #112 ********************************
