I've been thinking of writing this e-mail for some time now, and with the addition of a new computer (complete with CD burner) I'm coming to the members of the Good-Noise list with a proposition. Like many of you, I own all of John Gorka's CD's. I even have a few CD's were JG has made a contribution to. I'm interested to find out if any of you out there who have access to these "other" songs by John Gorka would be interested in a sort of 'Good-Noise Compilation' featuring these tunes. Basically, on your end you need a CD with a song, a CD player on your computer, software to "rip" the track to a .wav file (very big) and convert it to a .mp3 file (much smaller) and internet access to upload the file. There is free software available on the net to rip and convert, the others are up to you. I have an account at FreeDrive.com that gives 50 Meg of hardrive space for free on the net (my e-mail has a 1 Meg attachment limit, too small for an .mp3 file). I give you the login and password and you upload the .mp3 to FreeDrive. There is a fair amount of work involved, I know, but I can help walk you through it if you need it. After the song is uploaded, I download it, re-convert it back to a .wav file. Hopefully, after a few people have contributed songs, I take them all and burn to a CD, which gets mailed to you (we can discuss the cost later, this is a break even deal only). So far this is only an interest list. We can get into the moral and legal aspects later, unless there isn't anyone out there who is interested, and in that case, obviously, there will be nothing to discuss. Please contact me off of the list if you are not comfortable replying to the list. My e-mail is between5and7@hotmail.com My contribution to the CD would be: The Water Is Wide Sweet Love 24 Green Street (a duet) Christmas Bells _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I'm not out to screw John Gorka, just the opposite. Part of my "deal" will be to, as a group, send something to him. What or how we do that, I'm not sure of at this time. I know there are creative people on this list (or they wouldn't be on this list) who can come up with a good idea on this subject. >From: SMYRNSK@aol.com >Reply-To: good-noise@smoe.org >To: good-noise@smoe.org >Subject: Re: An interest list >Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 12:27:25 EDT > >how are musician's to make a living (sorry)? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. How is that any different from what you are wanting to do? So all I have to do is find one song to contribute and I make it onto the list??? tim ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 20:11:25 GMT From: "Mike Smith" Subject: Re: An interest list What I intended to say is that everything depends on if people contribute songs other than what I have. If there are people interested in contributing, great, then we figure out the finer details (including if you don't have anything to contribute, ect., ect.). If no one is interested and able to contribute, there is no compilation, and it ends there. Nothing is set in stone, it's only talk at this point. >From: Timothy_Miller@USE.salvationarmy.org >Reply-To: good-noise@smoe.org >To: good-noise@smoe.org >Subject: Re: An interest list >Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 15:03:42 -0400 > > >For Real? I was responding to somebody else's letter and got a little mixed up. Didn't mean to send that your way. I very much look forward to this CD and would be happy to send John full price for it. tim ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V3 #91 *******************************
