Just FYI - I've posted the rest of the songs from "After Yesterday" on my site. Most of the chording is surprisingly simple, but the chords to the intro on the title tune took me a while :-) BTW, I've just discovered a little tab program called TablEdit, that has a chord builder to help me come up with more correct names for some of the chords. I would never have come up with Bm/5- on my own :-) You can get a demo copy of this program at: http://www.tabledit.com Guess now I need to go back and fill in the rest of John's catalog before he comes out with a new CD :-) Greg http://www.gregorysteele.com/music/gorka_indx.htm ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 16:43:55 GMT From: "Mike Smith" Subject: Re: gorka song I listened to this song not long ago from Mary Black's CD which I had borrowed from our local library. I could definitely hear John Gorka's influence in the song. I'll have to re-check it out to copy the lyrics down. (Stopped at the library for lunch) "Cut by Wire" (Geoff Bartley & John Gorka) The letter stopped in a minor key A Christmas card that you drew for me Done by the hand that I knew so well Disguised the message that you could not tell I see you bent above your potter's wheel The piece you're throwing is the piece you feel The softest colour and an eye so true For cups and bowls that are shaped like you Chorus: You work in porcelain cut by wire Now as ever lovers walk through fire When we were breaking we made no sound The pieces almost touching on the ground And now your silence says there's someone there She stands behind you as she strokes your hair How does she hold you like a long lost friend Or are you like me on your own again And so I write you in a minor key Wondering if there's something left for me I'm only writing so that I can sleep I never found another love as deep Chorus **** If your interested in hearing this song, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I truly appreciate your responses, and the "Great Gorak's" sense of humor is obviously unrelenting. Also, I certainly would be willing to vote for JG for President, but of what? He's certainly too intelligent to get involved in politics . . . Incidentally, you are highly regarded amongst the various list members who can't believe that I don't know who you are, so I apologize for being a recent (but intense) neophyte. "I Know" what's best for you "Love is Our Cross to Bear" (i.e. Bill to Monica, John F. to Marilyn, Richard to Spiro, etc.) "Like My Watch"? Want it? Can I count on your vote? "Heart Upon Demand" (and favors even cheaper . . . ) "Out of My Mind", but knocking on YOUR door tomorrow night "B. B. King Was Wrong" because he supported my opponent "Branching Out"; a West Virginian's cry for democracy I'm just one of you, and I'll prove it by stumping "Down in the Milltown" all next week "Downtown Tonight", and maybe the next one, but back in my own bed by the weekend "Treasure Islands" and other unkept promises "You're On Your Way" out, George W . . . "My New Neighborhood" will be just off Pennsylvania Avenue "Night Is a Woman", but I'll be back home before dawn "Good" is not good enough, so vote for the best! White "Houses in the Fields" "Silence"; a one-word political oxymoron Sure, "I'm From New Jersey", but my opponent's from the Bronx "Can't Make Up My Mind" ('nough said . . . ) "Scraping Dixie" for every possible vote "Lightning's Blues", 'cause it didn't strike my opponent With "My Invisible Gun" and this here teleprompter, I can do/say almost anything "Part of Your Own", at least through election day "Two Good Reasons" (Well, O.K., how about two more . . . ) Everybody knows that the other party is made up of a bunch of "Airstream Bohemians" Red-handed, white-faced and "Blue Chalk"ed "Paradise, Once", and again . . . if I'm elected Yes, he's "Edgar, the Party Man", but he has strong independent tendencies . . . I never lie; I LOVE being out on the "Campaign Trail" for months on end! "Looking Forward" to working you, er . . . working FOR you "The Gypsy Life" is the only life for me, green acres we are there . . . "Gravyland" is just around the corner, so vote for me! "When She Kisses Me" I glance around to see who's videotaping us "All That Hammering" and still no improvement in the polls With sharply increasing costs/vote, the winner should be convicted of "Grand Larceny" "I Don't Feel Like a Train", I feel more like an Air Force One kinda guy and, finally, to bring this "thread" (rope?) to an end for the evening; "If I Could Forget to Breathe", you'd all be happier on election day Now, if you've survived the "campaign" to this point, please vote as follows: Yes (we want to hear/see more) or No (get the heck out of our faces) Thank you, thank you very much . . . These are the top ten reasons to vote for Mr. GORE, as presented by the man himself on Letterman last night. Cracked me up! :-D 10. Vote for me or I'll come to your home and explain my 191-page economic plan to you in excruciating detail. 9. Remember America, I gave you the Internet and I can take it away. Think about it. 8. Your vote automatically enters you in a drawing for the $123 billion surplus. 7. With Lieberman on the ticket, you get all kinds of fun new days off. Vote for us, we're going to work 24/6. 6. We know when the microphone is on. 5. Vote for me and I will take whatever steps are necessary to outlaw the term, "Whazzzup." 4. Gore-Lieberman: You don't have to worry about pork-barrel politics. 3. You'll thank us in four years when the escalator to the moon is finished. 2. If I can handle Letterman, I can handle Saddam Hussein. 1. I'll be twice as cool as that President guy in the "West Wing." SMOKEY Conquer your fear, and master the game/Life is always and never the same, Use a little faith to light the flame/And I know you'll connect to you.
