If "David's" not pulling our collective legs, then my insistence that someone out there knew the meaning of one of the world's most beautiful songs, "Silence", may have worked after all. His wife, eh? Then my speculation was correct! Yippee!!! Thanks, David, whoever, wherever you are . . . Now, I just have one more question (tonight . . . ); since "Campaign Trail" is my #1, all-time, most favoritest song in the world, how did John Gorka come to write it? Who/what was his inspiration, and/or how did he get inside a politician's head so thoroughly?! Thanks a billion, Gorka-gang! You've made my day!! Maybe that's not the way it was written, but I've known a musician or two with a little bit of fame, and I know that they have always had to put on a smile, shake hands, be nice to people they've never met, knowing that everyone they meet knows all about THEM, while they know nothing about the other person, etc. Sort of like life on the road is like life on the campaign trail. Ellis Paul ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 22:16:20 -0400 From: "Steve McGraw" Subject: Re: a word from Mr Gorka Thanks, SMOKEY; I had been told that JG wrote "Campaign Trail" from the perspective of a musician who has to deal with big record companies which are trying to "buy the souls" of great artists like him. That fits in with what you're saying, and I guess a further comment from David (or JG) could, in fact, prove that theory, too. The emotions, feelings and perspectives projected by "Campaign Trail" are incredibly accurate, presenting yet another opportunity for JG to display his amazing talents. The first time I heard that song, it was like being hit over the head with a political sign board! One remaining question; why do you think David took so long to answer the question about "Silence"? Does he not access this site very often? It would seem that supplying information like that would make JG even more popular. If I were on a "Campaign Trail" to make my music more interesting and impactful, then I believe I would do my best to explain it, but perhaps creating some sense of "mystery" is the approach many artists like to take. Oh, well; as I said earlier - in the end it doesn't really matter. I'll still be buying JG's CDs, going to his concerts and "advertising" him and his music to all who will listen, regardless. Thanks again, my friend . . .
