Nice Ellis Paul quote in there! :-) I don't think I knew you were a fan, but you must be if you know that song, since it isn't recorded....yet. It should be on the "Best of" CD this fall. Have three CDs now, Live, Carnival and Stories. I like them all for different reasons and on different days and different moods. Man, he is an amazing writer. If so, I sure wouldn't compare him to Richard Shindell....I love them both, but I think Richard's songs are wayyyy more complex and deep than Ellis'. They are just two different styles in my book. I'd recommend "Live" for a good idea of what Ellis is about. It's a double CD, but it really captures him in his entirety. After that, I'd say that my favorite CD of his is "Stories". You can buy all of these from the website, www.ellispaul.com. You can also read some of his poetry there, and "Notes From the Road", which are VERY entertaining. :-) SMOKEY Embrace what you have in common, celebrate what sets you apart It takes more than the color that you find on a palate to turn humanity into an art... -Ellis Paul ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2000 17:17:54 EDT From: ThePsyche@aol.com Subject: Re: Happy Birthday to John SMOKEY596@aol.com writes: << I'd recommend "Live" for a good idea of what Ellis is about. (that friend who kept sending me stuff trying to get me to go) So when I finally did go, it was a fantastic experience. Nothing could have prepared me for Ellis in live performance. He is almost maniacal at times. ( I mean that in only a positive way) It is as if his body becomes infused with the music. His stories, his humor, simply wonderful. I loved that he kept jumping down off the stage to stand between the seats and just let his voice and guitar fill the room with no amplification? Hmm...here I go, the more I talk about him, the more I want to see him again. Think he does house concerts? always thinking! Think he does house concerts? >> He absolutely does! In fact, someone was kind enough to give me (no selling here!) a copy of a house concert video of his. And you are right... he is amazing to see live! The first time I saw him live, I was in the front row of the little recital hall, and nearly got knocked in the head several times by the guitar neck as he roamed around the audience. Definitely go see him, and talk to him! He's very approachable.
