At the concert Tuesday at Ravinia, a few vocal fans began shouting out requests after John had played a couple of tunes. As usual, some of the requests were for the long moratorium list of Crime and Punishment songs that John just doesn't seem to want to play anymore. (I still wonder why) Then a voice rang through the beautiful auditorium, a voice clear and resonant and full of hope......the voice requested loud enough for the entire audience and John himself to hear: LA VIDA LOCA!! John smiled and said he often is mistaken for Ricky Martin. Here in the Chicago area there is a radio talk DJ (Kevin Matthews) who for years has encouraged his listeners to shout out the request for "Free Bird" no matter what type of music venue they are attending...opera, classical, folk......so right after the call for La Vida Loca, someone hollered out FREEBIRD. John obliged this request by playing Flying Red Horse...pretty funny. I actually heard him do that twice now when Free Bird has been hollered out. Try it the next time you see him.....of course a written request or mental request would be more appropriate. Just thought I would share those things that are lingering in the psyche since seeing JG last week. Be well all, and thanks Shirley, my partner in Gorka-crime, for the la Vida Loca line.
