Nice to hear from y'all. I heard JG on Cape Cod last month. This was my first JG concert, and I was blown away. I'll be hearing JG next in my hometown of Lexington, MA, at the Joyful Noise coffeehouse, in October. Keep in touch! I thought I would share a story and an idea. My favorite Gorka CD is by far Land of the Bottom Line. Always has been, as a complete musical journey. I mean, there were times I was on my way somewhere and would be driving, pop that CD in at the beginning of the ride and by the time I reached my destination, man was my mood low. I am living in the land of the bottom line these days and seriously, I find comfort in the melancholia of the songs. Nothing like a Gorka song to bring those dark feelings up from the depths of my despair. So....that is the story part of the post....here is my idea. I was driving past a McDonald's with "the boy" in the car and as he was asking for a happy meal toy.....and inspiration took over...I got this idea for The John Gorka Happy Meal (how is that for an oxymoron?) and accompanying toy. What would those toys be? The "Promnight In Pigtown" stuffed pigs "Jailbird in the Bighouse" beanie baby "Italian Girl" doll "Raven in the Storm" hand puppet Or make it toys from any of John's CDs. I know I would want a complete set. Collector's items? Any ideas fellow listers? Adios, Bryn, looking for any diversion that facing real life today Here are some of the responses from the Gorka list folks: How about the "houses in the fields" construction set? Complete with toy bulldozers and asphalt spreaders to pave over the corn rows, and legos to build the new tract developments. Joshua Hassol Did anyone mention dessert ideas? How about little cow popsicles for "Winter Cows"? Mary in Reno On the Gorka "premium" thread, I'm surprised no one has suggested an "Edgar the Party Man" cooler. A whisk broom and pan for "Where the Bottles Break." A rug for that "January Floor." Slot machine tokens for "Silvertown." Jay Votel The Body Parts medley. >> Now THERE'S some toys for your Happy Meal! :-) can see the promos now: Included inside this month's Happy Meals: The Gorkonian Watch... Fragile and Unreliable Included inside next month's Happy Meals: Raspberry Street action set with... 4 action figures: bartender, woman, man (with removable body parts) & bimbo 2 police cars with dogs $10 bill "Flying Red Horse" flying red horse (what else?) "Stranger In My Driver's Seat" toy car (with no windows) "Carnival Knowledge" clown nose "Saw A Stranger With Your Hair" doll (with removable wig) "I'm From New Jersey" doll (with really big hair) Oh, the "Happy Meal" should come from a Mexican restaurant, for that "Big Beef Burrito and A Beer Butt." - --Jay Votel A Mr. Potato Head "stranger" -- comes with your hair, your eyes, etc. How about a "Gypsy Life" compass and (was it Lowell?) a hedgehog? (And maybe a little, toy Charles Bronson...) Ahhhh, inspiration is a funny thing. Thank for all the smiles over the past couple of days. I will let you know about the concert and his reaction to the posts. Be well all. We're in San Francisco, where EVERYONE performs. We're staying in Berkeley, home of Freight And Salvage, where EVERYONE performs (often several times a year). While we are in town, Freight and Salvage is CLOSED!!!!! No one we want to see is playing in the Bay area. I might as well have stayed in Cleveland, eaten pirogis and given myself over to polka music..... I know I'm not a regular contributor but I have been reading. Guess it's time to come out of the closet: I'm a Gorkaholic. As a musician I find playing his songs a great antidote to the "Bottom Land" which I'm currently visiting. Or maybe it's really just a Thorny Patch. I had the priviledge of John's spring concert here in Anchorage. Jennifer Kimball was a beautiful stand-in for Lucy harmonies. Anyway, if my messages aren't getting through - would someone tell me ? ?
