I am a big fan of John Gorka and I love his music. The only problem is that I am Canadian and have little to no access to his CDs. The only thing that I have is a tape that someone copied for me of Land of the Bottom Line. I recently lost my tape somewhere between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and I am going crazy. I was wondering if one of you would be so generous as to tape (or ideally burn onto a blank CD) some Gorka music for me. I am willing to pay for the blank tape (or CDs) and the shipping. I will also pay some extra for your troubles. I would be forever grateful to anyone that is willing to take the time to help a Canuck get some Gorka music. Let me know if anyone is willing to do this for me. I realize that it is a lot to ask but, I don't really know what else to do. Thanks so much!! It's worth a try! ^^ 5/6/78, putting Tom Waits "Nighthawks At The Diner" on made Blaze B. run right into the closet and have her kittens. She seemed to have very little trouble, and they were all splendid kittens indeed. (I adopted 2 of them myself, Cinnabar and the famous Powzie. They lived to be almost 20, and were royally spoiled virtually every moment of that time, so perhaps it is a lucky ritual. We all love John Gorka and want him to be able to feed his sweet family. I will be happy to purchase anything for you that you want or need if you send the money. I will also recommend www.cdnow.com. I guess I wasn't thinking about that. Thank you for the direction to the website. I will check it out. Maybe someday someone will actually think of shipping CDs to Canada for sale in our country. Perhaps they are worried that they might freeze or be used as hockey puck :) Dayna From: Sophi18976@aol.com Date sent: Fri, 16 Jul 1999 14:26:19 EDT Subject: Re: Sharing the music To: Dayna Cummings , good-noise@smoe.org Send reply to: good-noise@smoe.org > Dayna- > > I disagree with burning tapes or CDs as the artist does not receive > compensation for this. Once, I even talked my gang into driving to Montreal for the day when we were vacationing in Vermont, just so we could shop at Sam the Record Man and drive right back! ( A very worthwhile trip, by the way! And, I discovered Stephen Eicher because his album was playing in the store) But I have finally found some great sources for Canadian music on the net (Festival, New World and AB) and one of these might help you-- AB sound in canada http://www.absound.ca/music/search/search.html is similar to Blockbuster or Cost Cutters in the US. I was just there and they have all or almost all of Gorkas titles, and they are a little cheaper than a regular record store, but shouldn't hurt John in the royalties department. Also, you won't be paying shipping from the US, so that might help. Good Luck!! John Gorka's music is our pleasure, but it's his livelihood, and I'm uncomfortable with any of us taking it away from him. Try 1-800-EVERY-CD (online, www.everycd.com). Prices are good and you should be able to order across the border. HMV (I think-the company name was three letters, for sure) was very good to me when I ordered Don Ross's CD's. It's the opposite problem: he's a great Canadian fingerstyle guitarist. You can't find his music in the USA, so I called HMV in Toronto. With the magic of a little plastic Visa card, they shipped the order pronto and even did the Canadian to US dollar conversions for me right on the statement. Good luck. I know what it's like to hanker after 'foreign' music you can't buy at home. I didn't know it was out until I had my 2 kids, so I really don't know what it's like. But it may be worth checking out... So, if it's a boy, will you call him Bocephus? LOL!
