John will be in Carson City at the Brewery Arts Center for 2 shows with Lucy Kaplansky on June 25. This will be the first time that I've ever actually seen John in tandem with someone else, and from all I've heard about their shows together, I'm really looking forward to this. >> Mary: I have (so far) not been lucky enough to see a full blown JG and LK show, but John did call Lucy up to sing 'Blue Chalk' with him at his recent show (with Cliff Eberhardt, Cheryl Wheeler and Patty Larkin) at the Bottom Line in NY. The 'sound' (for lack of a better word) created by these two voices singing together is truly something amazing to hear. I am very jealous of all of you who will get to see the two of them play together over the next few days. Please post your thoughts after the show if you can.... I always enjoy seeing the set lists so that I know when John's gotten back into playing some of the songs he occasionally takes out/puts back in to the line-up. Cheers - Mary in Reno ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 15:41:18 -0400 From: Tay Mueller Subject: John and Lucy We have been lucky enough to have John and Lucy play together here in the past. You guys are in for a treat. Lucy has a wonderful voice in her own right, but she is just so comfortable singing with others- her harmonies are so natural and right, and she can fill out a sound without that need to overpower the other singer that some folks have. Of all the people I have heard her sing with, John and Richard Shindell are standouts for me. I think it's because Lucy has quite a deep range herself- instead of filling in just the upper reaches of a song, the deepness of their sounds swells together and the effect is so--- RICH. Like double chocolate instead of like whipped cream on top, if you know what I mean.
