I was just wondering if anybody here happens to be going to the "On a Summer's Night" show with John, Cliff, Patty & Cheryl tomorrow night at the Keswick Theater in Glenside PA? If so, please drop me an e-mail...I'd love to meet some other Gorka-holics! Fellow Gorkaholics- Just came back from the mall where I got a rude (if amusing) shock. Standing in the Coach leather store, waiting for a Father's Day present to be wrapped, my ears caught the sound of a smooth pop-female voice with doo-wop instrumentation singing: "...Of how I wouldn't make my stand in the House of Corrections...". I whipped my head around fast enough to risk whiplash and continued to listen as Ms. Smoothie crooned: "Now I'm looking forward to you...my former view was backward, my backward view was blue...". I accosted the poor clerk and began a rapid-fire questioning: "Who is singing? What is the name of the CD? Where did it come from?" Yes, our guy has now become Muzak on a compilation CD that Coach sends out to all its stores (per the clerk). She had no idea who was singing (mangling, if you ask me) 'Looking Forward'. I have mixed feelings here. If JG gets royalties, well, he deserves them for sure. But it was WEIRD to hear his song turned into elevator music!!!!! Barbara (still recuperating from the shock) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jun 1999 23:10:30 EDT From: Sophi18976@aol.com Subject: Re: Gorka is Muzak! I bet it was Mary Black. She is an Irish singer...heard her singing this song not too long ago...whiplashed me a bit too. I generally love MB's work, but not so on this cut... Hope this helps. Peaceful good stuff, Sam ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jun 1999 07:24:49 +0000 From: Andrew Butterfield Subject: RE: Gorka is Muzak! Yes, definitely Mary Black. She covers, I think, 3 Gorka songs on her "Circus" album. All a bit bland I'm afraid and of course not a patch on the originals.
