The disc contains "Furniture" recorded live at The Mountain KMTT in Seattle. "Furniture" is performed with solo guitar. It is a good performance, but it is the only live track on the 4 track disc, the others taken from "Out of the Valley". It is nice to help complete a collection, but the opening bid seems high to me, I paid $4 for mine. If you are curious, about where you might find promos, you have to shop the independent and used record shops. - --Chris At 09:23 AM 5/25/99 PDT, you wrote: >Hey JGers > >I was just browsing EBAy and checked out John Gorka, someone is getting rid >of a 4 track 1994 promo and it has a live song "Furniture" on it. I learned about John Gorka and his amazing music = just a few months ago from a very dear friend of mine on the David = Wilcox list, and I have become an avid fan in a very short period of = time. I will be going to my first JG concert at the Birchmere in = Alexandria, Virginia on Friday, July 9, and can't wait to see this guy = in action! I was on this list for a couple of months, then took myself off it and = another list this past Saturday but couldn't stand the "silence" any = longer, so now I'm back and I hope some of you have answers to a couple = of burning questions which I have had for some time about JG and some of = his songs. First, how did he come to write "Campaign Trail"? What was his = influence/inspiration, and how did he gain so much insight into the guts = of politics and politicians and politicking? I'm a locally elected = politician, and this song has really struck a nerve with me. Its grasp = of the subject matter is so complete, so thorough, so well-worked, that = I would have to believe that either Gorka or some close friend or = acquaintance of his must have been involved in politics and related = these thoughts to him. How'd he come to write this incredible song? Next, what is the whole story behind "Silence"? Once again, this one = has really smacked me up side the head. I don't know of a more = beautiful song, and between it and CT I have bored a lot of my friends = nearly to death playing it over the past few weeks. Can anyone explain = the meaning behind all the lyrics, and whether the young lady to whom = he's referring actually existed, what was their relationship, etc.? = That one definitely came straight from the heart, and it reminds me of a = very good friend of mine. So what's the scoop; anybody know? I'm sure I'll come up with more questions about JG, and then I'll tell = you what I think of his concert in Alexandria in July if you're = interested in hearing it then. If not, just hit that old delete button = and move on to the next one. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to = your answers to my first two questions. Thanks! Wonderful post and good questions to which I have no answers....but of course, an opinion. About Campain Trail: I think the biggest strength in John's writing is his observant eye. He has a way of taking a person, a situation, a place or an attitude and defining it in human terms. Simple, clear, with an economy of words. Politics is messy and convoluted and full of people who are not what they seem on the surface. You say and do what others are telling you *the people* want or need or think and in the end, you may lose sight of what you really wanted to do, hoped to accomplish and truly believe in. But....you got elected. Just my rambling thoughts on a late spring afternoon. What an amazing talent! Maybe someone else on the JG list will come up with a more in-depth answer, but there may not be one . . . Thanks!
