Turns out it's open Dsus4 tuning. Tuning should go, from low string to high, as such: E A D G B E (standard) D A D G A D (open Dsus4) Therefore, playing a simple D chord means having to stretch across 4 frets. You might have noticed his hands when he was playing. I have all the chord charts and stuff for the song, but it's too complicated to relay via e-mail.
