Gee, Kris. You were at Godfrey's 20th Anniversary too? I thought it was so weird to see John reading the lyrics off his CD booklet. That was my first TFIA experience and I have been following them ever since. They are wonderful guys and it's so cool to have music that you and your kid(s) can enjoy together. I especially loved Dave (the MC) after TFIA finished their rollicking version of "Not Fade Away," with everyone clapping to that Bo Diddley beat, when he said, "It's folk music, ladies and gentlemen." That's one good thing about John Gorka, too. My daughter, Jackie, is a fan of his and Lucy Kaplansky as well. I really get a kick out of surprising her with trips to concerts. You should have seen her face when she sat down next to Lucy at a little club in Rehoboth Beach, Del., three summers ago. She has been to Godfrey Daniels several times, and also to the Ice House in Bethlehem for a TFIA show. She got to sit right in front of the stage where Keith and Ezra played "just for her." Talk about magic. I'm afraid, though, that the magic is going to fade as she gets into her later teens. She listens to pop radio more and more, like all kids do. Trouble is, when I listened to pop radio at her age -- and before -- they were playing Donovan, the Beatles, Stones, and later CSNY, etc. I like R&B, too, but my idea of R&B is Sam and Dave and James Brown, not N-Sync, or whatever. I guess my age is showing. *s* Maybe, though, her interest in singer-songwriters is one that will have an impression on her for her whole life. By the way, I have joined the Lucy list and get a long digest every day. I am surprised that there is so much more activity on her list than on John's. Is anyone planning to see her at the Barns of Wolftrap or Tin Angel March 25 and 26? In keeping with this thread, Lucy's new disc "Ten Year Night" has been in the forefront of my conscious listening for the past 10 days. I hope the purists out there (and bless you all) will not dis the site too much as I try to warn folks that the files are just stuff I've worked out, most of the time without the CD around and in keys that seem 1) easy for me to play, and 2) in a key I can sing in. :-) After seeing John in concert, I realize that he definitely uses the capo more than I do. I hope to get around to reworking these files to more correctly follow the recordings, but for the time being, I hope John's fans can enjoy them. ------------------------------ End of good-noise-digest V2 #33 *******************************
